It is our most demanding tour in Morocco: 7 days with 5 days of riding, on a loop from Marrakech through the heart of the High Atlas (Bin El Ouidane, Imilchil, the Dadès Gorges, Tabant), with tracks every day. From the Atlas Mountains to the Sahara Dunes also mixes tracks and sand, over 8 days, all the way to the desert. If you have never ridden off tarmac, The Wonders of the Atlas Mountains crosses some of the same mountains almost entirely on tarmac, as do The Gateway to the Desert and The Argan Tree Route.
The tour is rated Intermediate and is for riders who have already ridden on tracks and are physically fit: it is more tiring than technical. A one-day off-road training course is good preparation if you are new to riding off tarmac. Some stages are far from medical help: the support vehicle follows the group.
About 652 miles (1,050 km) over 5 riding days, from 87 to 162 miles (140 to 260 km) a day, including 9 to 55 miles (15 to 88 km) of tracks depending on the stage and the options suggested by the guide. Expect at least 3 hours on tracks each day, setting off around 8.30am and arriving around 5pm.
A Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, built for tracks, serviced by our mechanic, who follows the group with the spare parts. If your height makes you hesitate, talk to your travel advisor before booking.
We advise against it: the days on tracks are long and physical, and this raid is not designed for two-up riding. If you are set on riding two-up, talk to your travel advisor first. To discover the Atlas as a couple, The Wonders of the Atlas Mountains is made for it.
An English-speaking motorcycle tour leader, a mechanic and the driver of the support vehicle, which carries your luggage and the spare parts. The group is limited to 10 motorcycles.
£1,790 (€1,990) per rider. The price includes the motorcycle, fuel, the team, accommodation, full board from dinner on day 1 to breakfast on day 7 and transfers from Marrakech airport. You pay for your flights, drinks, tips and a €600 deposit per motorcycle.
The tour starts and ends in Marrakech, and you book your own flights. Our team meets you at the airport on day 1 and takes you back on day 7, according to your flight times. Day 1 is free to explore the city: arriving early gives you time to enjoy it. To arrive earlier or stay on, ask your travel advisor about the options.
Departures run in spring and autumn, when the mountain tracks are passable: the dates are shown on this page. Days are warm but mornings and evenings are cold, especially above 2,000 metres, where we spend one night: bring a warm layer and rain gear.
In standard hotels, guesthouses or a camp. The support vehicle carries your luggage: bring a soft bag rather than a hard suitcase.
