Arrival in Delhi
Namaste! Welcome to Delhi, the bustling Indian capital. Our airport representative meets you on arrival and gives you all the details and times for tomorrow's flight to Leh. A private vehicle takes you to your hotel. Two options for this first day: rest at the hotel after your flight, or set out to discover the bustling capital. (Note: your tour leader will meet you directly in Leh.)
Delhi - Leh Stage 2/14 9 miles (15 km)

After an early breakfast, we fly to Leh. On arrival in the beautiful capital of Ladakh, your guide welcomes you. It is important to slow down and acclimatise to the altitude, as you are at 3,500 m (11,483 ft), before starting this fabulous motorcycle tour in India.
East Indus Valley Stage 3/14 47 miles (75 km)
East Indus Valley
In the morning, we head east along the Indus Valley. This first day lets you stay at the same altitude and acclimatise properly while getting to grips with your motorcycles. Today's goal: discover some of the finest monasteries in Ladakh, such as Thiksey, for a wonderful introduction to Tibetan Buddhism.
Leh - Lamayuru Stage 4/14 87 miles (140 km)

This is the big departure! On our Royal Enfields, we cross the impressive gorges of the Indus heading west. We take the Kargil road towards Lamayuru and its perched monastery, the most prestigious Tibetan gompa in Ladakh. Night in a simple guesthouse at 3,500 m (11,483 ft).

The journey continues: we carry on west towards the Zanskar region over the Fotu La pass. We follow the Indus upstream, passing small villages steeped in fascinating Tibetan Buddhist culture. Night at a hotel at 3,300 m (10,827 ft).
Temisgam - Leh Stage 6/14 71 miles (115 km)

We head back towards Leh. We make the most of this short stage to admire and visit several remarkable monasteries: Likir, and the astonishing Phyang monastery with its 900-year-old museum.
Leh - Hunder Stage 7/14 78 miles (125 km)
Leh - Hunder
We climb towards the Khardung La through an endless series of hairpins. At 5,370 m (17,618 ft), the Khardung La is one of the highest motorable passes in the world, with a magical panorama over the Zanskar range to the south and the great Karakoram range to the north. Time seems to stand still. Night in a camp or hotel at 3,100 m (10,171 ft).

A journey into another world, the Balti region, where Shia Muslims are the majority and which was part of Pakistan until the 1971 war. Faces, clothes, food: everything is different from the Buddhist Ladakh you have seen so far. It is a long distance, but the road is in rather good condition.
Hunder - Lake Pangong Stage 9/14 121 miles (195 km)

We enjoy the sublime Nubra Valley in the morning light, then soon leave it to follow the Shyok River through a monumental valley where we feel as tiny as ants! After a simple local lunch, we ride towards the immense Lake Pangong, straddling the Indo-Tibetan border. Night at a hotel at 4,300 m (14,108 ft).

We follow an unconventional route, adding several mountain lakes to the picture and a pass higher than the Khardung La, at 5,437 m (17,838 ft)! A magnificent day in a wild, unspoilt environment. This region is called Rupshu (or Changtang): it is the most isolated part of Ladakh, home to cashmere goat herders and plenty of kyang, the wild donkeys of Tibet. Tonight is the highest night of the trip, and sleep may be disturbed. Night in a simple guesthouse at 4,600 m (15,092 ft).
Tso Moriri Lake - Leh Stage 11/14 149 miles (240 km)

The road back to Leh is a rider's dream: good tarmac and almost no traffic, winding along the river through the gorges before the valley gradually opens up to monumental proportions as we approach the capital of Ladakh.
Leh - Delhi Stage 12/14

Your incredible discovery of the Indian Himalayas is coming to an end... A very early transfer to Leh airport for your domestic flight to Delhi, then transfer to the hotel.
Delhi Stage 13/14
Delhi
Free day in Delhi. The Indian capital is huge and intense. Amid the frenzy, real havens of peace exist: recharge in the Lodhi Gardens, admire the modern architecture of the Lotus Temple and discover the capital's little Taj Mahal, Humayun's Tomb, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Night at the hotel.

Last day: time to enjoy your last chai, the traditional spiced Indian tea! Your room is booked until 10 a.m. Transfer to Delhi International Airport according to your flight times. End of our services.

  • Fuel, parking fees and any tolls.

  • Third-party motorcycle insurance.

  • Compulsory insurance: cover for medical expenses on site, and repatriation assistance that covers you for accidents on large-capacity motorcycles.

  • Legal protection and cancellation insurance, strongly recommended.

  • International driving permit.

This ride includes some long stages at high altitude, with passes above 4,500 m (14,764 ft), far from medical help.

First aid to reach the nearest medical centre is mainly provided by our support vehicle, as helicopters and ambulances are very rare.

Limited phone networks and the ban on satellite phones can make contacting the emergency services difficult.

As with any mountain route, road quality and difficulty depend on the weather, both during and before the trip.
