This ride includes a few long stages far from first aid. Primary assistance to reach the nearest medical centre is mainly provided by our support vehicle, as helicopters and ambulances are very rare. Unstable phone networks can occasionally make it difficult to contact emergency services. As on any mountain route, road quality and the difficulty of the ride depend on the weather during and before the trip.

The Wonders of the Atlas Mountains: your questions

How is this tour different from your other Morocco tours?

It is our easiest tour in Morocco: 7 days with 5 days of riding, almost all on tarmac, on a loop from Marrakech over the High Atlas, Aït Ben Haddou, the Dadès Gorges and Imilchil. The Gateway to the Desert has the same format but heads for the Anti-Atlas and the Atlantic at Essaouira. The Argan Tree Route lasts 8 days from Agadir. For the Sahara dunes or more off-road riding, From the Atlas Mountains to the Sahara Dunes and the Berber Raid are for riders who have already ridden off-road.

What riding level do I need, and is there any off-road?

The tour is rated Accessible: a full motorcycle licence and regular riding are enough, which makes it a good first motorcycle tour abroad. About 10% of the route is on easy tracks, the rest on winding mountain roads, up to a pass at 2,700 metres. Some stages are far from medical help: the support vehicle follows the group.

How far do we ride each day?

About 620 miles (1,000 km) over 5 riding days, so 118 to 130 miles (190 to 210 km) a day. Mountain roads are winding: expect a full day in the saddle, with photo stops and lunch on the way.

Which motorcycle will I ride, and will it suit my height?

A Royal Enfield Classic 350 or Himalayan 450, depending on the departure: the model is confirmed when you book. The Classic 350 has the lower seat. If your height makes you hesitate, either way, talk to your travel advisor before booking.

Can I bring a pillion?

Yes, this is one of our best tours for two-up riding: very little off-road, and the luggage travels in the support vehicle. The tour costs £1,790 (€1,990) per rider and £1,490 (€1,640) per pillion.

Who leads the group, and how many of us are there?

An English-speaking motorcycle tour leader, a mechanic and the driver of the support vehicle, which carries your luggage and the spare parts. The group is limited to 10 motorcycles (12 participants with pillions).

How much does it cost, and what should I budget for on top?

£1,790 (€1,990) per rider and £1,490 (€1,640) per pillion. The price includes the motorcycle, fuel, the team, accommodation, full board from dinner on day 1 to breakfast on day 7, the planned visits and transfers from Marrakech airport. You pay for your flights, drinks, tips and a €600 deposit per motorcycle.

How do I get to the start?

The tour starts and ends in Marrakech, and you book your own flights. Our team meets you at the airport on day 1 and takes you back on day 7, according to your flight times. Day 1 is free to explore the city: arriving early gives you time to enjoy it. To arrive earlier or stay on, ask your travel advisor about the options.

When does the tour run, and what is the weather like?

Departures run from February to June, then from September to November. Days are warm but mornings and evenings are cold, especially at altitude: bring a warm layer and rain gear.

Where do we stay, and what luggage should I bring?

In standard to comfort hotels and riads. The support vehicle carries your luggage: bring a soft bag rather than a hard suitcase.
