You’re greeted at the airport and transferred to your hotel in the centre of Delhi. You room is available from midday. You are free to spend your afternoon relaxing or exploring the city centre, if you wish.
New Delhi - Nimmu
2/11 • New Delhi - Nimmu
Early morning transfer to the airport, then flight to Leh, and private vehicle along the Indus River to reach Nimmu. Day of acclimatisation and rest in the idyllic setting of this Ladakhi village, and especially in the superb Ladakhi noble residence where you will be staying. You can take a walk in the oasis around Nimmu House before starting your magnificent India motorcycle tour tomorrow!

Today we take the bikes for a spin across the vast Indus plains surrounding Nimmu. The days provides multiple options; we might decide on a loop towards the charming and authentic Ney Valley, with the ancient Basgo Palace and monastery, or we may instead choose a round trip into the Zanskar gorge. We return to Nimmu by lunchtime, or if the group wishes to extend today's exploration, in time for tea.

We depart Nimmu, taking the Kargil road heading towards Kashmir. Along the way, we visit the Alchi monastery, known for its architecture and Kashmiri-style murals. We then follow a beautiful stretch of road alongside the Indus River, climbing our way up to the scenic basin where we find Temisgam with its famed monastery nestled high on its rocky perch.

We set off to explore Lamayuru’s hilltop monastery. It is the oldest Tibetan gompa in Ladakh, situated in an area of stunning lunar landscapes known locally as Moonland. We take a slightly different route back to Temisgam, our path crossing its lush valley towards the surrounding peaks and on further to the monastery where young lamas train, Drukpa Nunnery.

We return to the green banks of the Indus, surrounded by the Zanskar and Ladakh mountain ranges. This time the river guides us along a different route, passing through traditional Ladakhi villages such as Yangthang and across two nearby passes with an elevation of 4,000 meters. Although quite high, they are not difficult to navigate and picture perfect views guaranteed! We spend time visiting Likir monastery before rejoining the main road to Leh.

Today the riding becomes more intense; a long day awaits us, full of beauty and adventure. After visiting the famous Thiksey Monastery we take a small paved road across the Wari La, a sparsely-traveled aerial pass cresting at an altitude of 5,300 meters. We will encounter rocky passages with the possibility of water crossings. We picnic after the pass, flanked by yaks and a wild mountain stream. Grand views, and small authentic villages make for this unforgettable motorcycle day!

Today we take some time to appreciate Nubra valley’s magnificent natural wonders. We can swim beneath a waterfall, or drive up to the Hunder Dunes and the Diskit Monastery. We can visit Summor, where we indulge ourselves in a relaxing walk between the old stone walls, willows, poplars and irrigation channels of this typical high-desert oasis.

Today’s challenge: we climb a series of hairpin turns to summit Khardung La, the highest motorable road in the world at 5,370 meters above sea level. This famous pass is an extremely popular travel destination, drawing motorists from all over the world, meaning we must remain highly vigilant. But our reward is breathtaking scenery that is truly magical, with the Zanskar range to the south and the Karakoram mountains to the north. We descend through the Indus valley and return to the capital city of Leh.

Your Indian Himalayan adventure is drawing to a close. In the morning, you are transferred to Leh airport to take a domestic flight to Delhi, and then transferred to the hotel to enjoy your final evening in the capital city.

This raid is designed for experienced riders and features long stages at high altitudes, including passes over 4,500 meters, often far from immediate medical assistance. Primary aid in reaching the nearest medical center is provided by our support vehicle, as helicopters and ambulances are rarely available. Limited phone coverage and restrictions on satellite phones can make contacting emergency services challenging. Additionally, as with any mountain route, road quality and difficulty are heavily influenced by current and prior weather conditions
