Arrival in Kayseri according to your flight schedule. Transfer to your hotel in Cavusin. Overnight stay in a standard room in an exclusive character hotel located in the heart of Göreme National Park. Here begins far more than just a simple Europe motorbike tour… welcome to the gateway to Asia!

Cavusin - Çamardı
Wake up to the first rays of the sun and enjoy breathtaking views from our hotel of hot air balloons rising among the fairy chimneys of Göreme National Park. An irresistible invitation to explore this lunar landscape more closely, taking trails nestled between these unique rock formations. After this fascinating introduction, the day continues on picturesque roads, passing through troglodyte villages little frequented by tourists, before visiting a monastery carved entirely out of the rock. We end this day with an ascent to the gates of the Anti-Taurus mountains, where we spend the night in total immersion in nature. Overnight in a bungalow.

This stage takes you into the mountains, where you will start with spectacular views of the highest peaks of the Anti-Taurus, peaking at 3,750 m. You will quickly gain altitude to venture into this natural and wooded area, taking steep trails and tight turns. As you progress, you will discover wild and sparsely populated nature, before ending this day in style with a visit to the Kapuzbaşı waterfalls. Made up of seven waterfalls among the highest in Turkey, they are fed by the waters of the surrounding snow-capped peaks. Overnight in a standard hotel.

Waking up to the soothing sound of the river flowing below your hotel prepares you for a new day full of adventures. The Anti-Taurus Mountains still have many surprises to offer you. You'll take a mix of small mountain roads and trails, passing waterfalls, picturesque mountain villages and larger towns, all in an almost frozen-in-time atmosphere. To end this day in style, a nice surprise awaits you: a spa and thermal waters within your hotel. What more could you ask for? Overnight in a standard room.
Döngele - Malatya Stage 5/9 168 miles (271 km), including 19 miles (30 km) off-road
Döngele - Malatya
It's time to say goodbye to the enchanted mountains to reach the central plain, while remaining in the Cappadocian highlands, at around 1,000 m above sea level. On these small secondary roads running alongside several natural lakes, the landscape transforms radically. The wooded mountains that you leave behind give way to a more arid and mineral setting, typical of the region. You thus reach Malatya, formerly Melitene, which was historically the capital of the easternmost province of the ancient kingdom of Cappadocia. Overnight in a modern comfort hotel.
Malatya - Kemaliye Stage 6/9 126 miles (203 km), including 19 miles (31 km) off-road
Malatya - Kemaliye
Malatya, in addition to being the capital of the Roman province of Armenia, has a history of more than 5000 years, and remains are still there to bear witness to it. You will then cross the mythical Euphrates river by boat, the same one which crossed the Garden of Eden according to the Bible. You will follow it for a large part of the day, on the other side of the bank, where asphalt roads and apricot plantations gradually give way to rolling tracks, in an arid and deserted landscape. You will continue your route towards your stopover village, with a dizzying descent into the hollow of the Euphrates valley, leading you to a destination that evokes a small Alpine village. Overnight in a basic hotel.
Kemaliye - Gurun Stage 7/9 114 miles (183 km), including 35 miles (57 km) off-road
Kemaliye - Gurun
A day full of breathtaking landscapes and adventure routes awaits you. Just out of your village nestled in the mountains, you venture into the Karanlik canyon, a unique road lined with cliffs, interspersed with a multitude of tunnels dug into the rock, with holes of light which provide a special atmosphere. This trail will leave you hungry for new adventures, and you will continue your way out of the canyon to reach Divrigi and visit its great mosque. You will end the day on rolling tracks, crossing mountains and desert spaces. Overnight in a standard hotel.
Gurun - Cavusin Stage 8/9 194 miles (312 km), including 9 miles (15 km) off-road
Gurun - Cavusin
A final, more rolling stage separates you from the finish line, leading you to Göreme National Park crossing the large central plateau. A pleasant mix of secondary roads and rolling tracks, sometimes dusty, will allow you to cross this agricultural area, rich in cereal crops and sheep breeding. In the distance, you will see Mount Erciyes, a dormant volcano rising almost 4,000 m above Kayseri. A stop along the way will allow you to refresh yourself over lunch at the foot of the Pinarbasi waterfalls. You will then reach your destination, where you will be amazed by the proliferation of troglodyte structures and characteristic landscapes. You will fully enjoy this last sunset over the fairy chimneys, a spectacle rich in colours to end this journey through this spectacular region in style. Overnight in a standard room in an exclusive character hotel in the heart of Göreme National Park.

This adventure tour is reserved for experienced riders. It includes long stages that are far from immediate medical assistance. Primary support to reach the nearest medical centre is mainly provided by our support vehicle, as resources like helicopters or ambulances are extremely limited. Unstable phone networks can occasionally make it difficult to contact emergency services. As on any mountain route, the condition of the roads and the difficulty of the route depend on the weather during and before the trip.

How is this tour different from Anatolian Treasures?

It is our most adventurous tour in Turkey: a 9-day adventure tour with 7 days of riding, on a loop from Kayseri, from the fairy chimneys of Cappadocia to the Anti-Taurus Mountains, the Kapuzbaşı waterfalls, the Euphrates and the Karanlık Canyon, with off-road riding every day. Anatolian Treasures is easier: 7 days almost all on tarmac, from Antalya, between the Mediterranean coast and Pamukkale, in spring and autumn.

What riding level do I need, and how far do we ride each day?

The tour is rated Intermediate, but it is an adventure tour for experienced riders who are already comfortable off-road. We cover about 932 miles (1,500 km) over 7 days, 98 to 194 miles (157 to 312 km) a day, with 9 to 36 miles (15 to 58 km) of track per stage: gravel, dust and a few rocky sections. Tracks make up about a fifth of the distance but a third of the riding time. Some stages are far from medical help: the support vehicle follows the group.

Which motorcycle will I ride, and will it suit my height?

A Royal Enfield Himalayan 411, built for tarmac and tracks alike, maintained by our mechanic, who follows the group with the spare parts. If your height makes you hesitate, either way, talk to your travel advisor before booking.

Can I bring a pillion?

Yes, if the rider has already ridden off-road and on mountain roads two-up: the pace is demanding, for the rider and the pillion alike. The tour costs £2,590 (€2,890) per rider and £2,190 (€2,390) per pillion. Talk to your travel advisor before booking.

Who leads the group, and how many of us are there?

An English-speaking motorcycle tour leader, a mechanic and the driver of the support vehicle, which carries your luggage and the spare parts: bring a soft bag rather than a hard suitcase. The group is limited to 10 motorcycles (12 participants with pillions).

How much does it cost, and what should I budget for on top?

£2,590 (€2,890) per rider and £2,190 (€2,390) per pillion. The price includes the motorcycle, fuel, the team, accommodation, full board from dinner on day 1 to breakfast on day 9 and transfers from Kayseri airport. You pay for your flights, drinks, tips, entry fees to the sites visited and a €600 deposit per motorcycle.

Do I need a visa or an International Driving Permit?

UK passport holders can visit Turkey without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180-day period; the passport must be valid for at least 150 days after arrival. To ride with a UK licence, the FCDO says you need a 1968 International Driving Permit, to get before you leave. EU passport holders need no visa for a short stay either, and carrying an International Driving Permit is advised. For other nationalities, your travel advisor confirms the requirements. Is it safe to ride in eastern Cappadocia?

The route stays in central Anatolia, between Cappadocia, Malatya and Kemaliye, far from the country’s south-eastern borders. The group rides with a tour leader and a support vehicle. Before you go, read the FCDO travel advice for Turkey and ask your travel advisor any questions.

How do I get to the start?

The tour starts and ends in Kayseri, in Cappadocia, and you book your own flights, usually with a connection in Istanbul. Our team meets you at the airport on day 1 and takes you to your hotel in Cavusin, near Göreme National Park, then back to the airport on day 9, according to your flight times. To arrive earlier or stay on, ask your travel advisor about the options.

When does the tour run, and where do we stay?

The season runs from March to October; open dates are shown on this page, and other dates are possible on request through your travel advisor. Days are hot on the plateaus, cooler in the morning and in the mountains: bring a warm layer and rain gear. We stay in standard hotels and guesthouses, with a few more rustic nights in the mountains, by the rivers.
