Hop on your Himalayan motorbikes to discover both human and natural treasures, from the centuries-old traditions of the Dahar mountain range and Berber culture to the fringes of the Great Eastern Erg, or Sahara Desert. You will discover the cosmopolitan history of the island of Djerba, the mesmerising dunes and the power of the vast Saharan expanses, the date palm groves, these islands of vegetation synonymous with survival for the Bedouins, and the unexpected Amazigh heritage of the Dahar, its thousand-year-old cultural traditions, its troglodyte dwellings and its astonishing citadel villages. 1/7 • Djerba Island
Welcome to Djerba for this Africa motorcycle tour! You will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel in Houmt Souk, the island's historic town. Once settled in our fondouk, an ancestral building that once housed merchants and travellers, you are free to explore the historic streets of the souk, with its colourful stalls selling fabrics, objects and spices. Stroll through the unique architectural atmosphere of its whitewashed buildings and the ubiquitous bougainvillea in bloom. Enjoy the island's legendary laid-back atmosphere with a coffee or freshly squeezed orange juice in the shade of the tamarind trees. Overnight stay in a heritage hotel (standard).
2/7 • Djerba - Tataouine
Early departure to meet the motorcycles about fifteen kilometres from Houmt Souk. After leaving the island and reaching the mainland via the only road link (the old Roman road), we quickly head towards the mountainous region of Dahar. At the end of the morning, we reach its arid landscapes and valleys where every drop of water counts. Lunch in the shade of palm trees in a mountain oasis. In the second part of the day, we enter the land of the Ksour and fortified villages, built in the past by semi-nomadic populations to protect and store crops and other precious goods. At the end of the day, we reach our accommodation north of Tataouine. Night in a heritage hotel (standard).

3/7 • Tataouine - Ksar Ghilane
We set off for the southernmost point of the trip, passing through the town of Tataouine, made famous by the Star Wars saga, to see one of the most interesting ksour in Ouled Soltane. We continue all morning through the Dahar mountains to the fortified village of Chenini for lunch. In the afternoon, we drive towards the Tunisian Sahara and its well-known oasis, Ksar Ghilane. The bends become fewer and fewer, the first dunes appear, and we enter a different world. There is the option of swimming in the oasis spring or quad biking in the dunes. Night in a standard hotel, in Bedouin-style tents.

4/7 • Ksar Ghilane - Douz
To get from the oasis to Douz, you have to drive along the edge of the desert on a road where sandbanks regularly appear. Or herds of camels. Lunch in the centre of Douz, then in the afternoon, we take a loop through the date palm groves, the region's main economic resource, to drive along the southern edge of Chott El Jerid, a vast depression of an invisible salt lake. The shade and calm of the palm groves are a blessing in these harsh lands. Night in a standard hotel. 99 miles + 47 (optional) miles.

5/7 • Douz - Matmata
After driving through other palm groves on the eastern edge of Chott El Jerid, we cross a vast desert area before reaching the northern part of the Dahar mountain range after lunch. We enter the mountains again via Ancienne Zraoua, another fascinating fortified village. Finally, we approach Matmata, known for its cave dwellings dug into the ground and its resemblance to Cappadocia. We drive through this stunning, timeless landscape during the second half of the day before reaching our cave dwelling. Overnight stay in a charming standard hotel.

6/7 • Matmata - Djerba
We make the most of this morning devoted to the landscapes of northern Dahar, where crops and greenery are gradually reappearing. We enjoy a traditional lunch on the mountainside, in an old Berber village built of dry stone, before descending to the plain towards the coast. We board the ferry to return to the island of Djerba. We drop off our motorbikes at the end of the afternoon and return to Houmt Souk. Dinner at the fondouk to discuss the highlights of this motorbike trip. Night in a standard hotel.

Your Tunisian adventure has come to an end. It's time to do some last-minute shopping in Houmt Souk. Shuttle to Djerba International Airport.

This hike includes a few long stages far from first aid. Primary assistance to reach the nearest medical center is mainly provided by our assistance vehicle, means such as helicopters or ambulances being very rare. Unstable telephone networks can occasionally make contact with emergency services difficult. As with any adventure itinerary, the difficulty of the route depends on the weather conditions, both during and before the trip.
