It is our most accessible tour in Vietnam: 11 days with 8 days of riding, no tracks, on a loop from Hoi An in the centre of the country, along the Ho Chi Minh Road, through Hue, Phong Nha National Park and over the Hai Van Pass, between jungle, lagoons and coast. Across the Mountain Passes of Ha Giang is an Intermediate adventure tour in the north, from Hanoi: 12 days with 10 days of riding through the mountains of Ha Giang, with some tracks.
The tour is rated Accessible: a full motorcycle licence and regular riding are enough, which makes it a good first motorcycle tour in Asia. We cover about 785 miles (1,265 km) over 8 riding days, 62 to 130 miles (100 to 210 km) a day, all on tarmac, with a rest day at Phong Nha. Some stages are far from medical help: the support vehicle follows the group.
Yes, with an International Driving Permit as well: it is compulsory and does not replace your national licence, so bring both. Only permits issued under the 1968 Vienna Convention are recognised in Vietnam; permits from countries that have not signed it (the United States, Canada, Australia and Ireland, among others) are not, so check before you book. Visa and other formalities: our list of required documents for Vietnam.
A Royal Enfield Himalayan 411, serviced by our mechanic, who follows the group with the spare parts. If your height makes you hesitate, either way, talk to your travel advisor before booking.
Yes, this is one of our best tours for two-up riding: no tracks, reasonable stages and the luggage travels in the support vehicle. The tour costs £2,690 (€2,990) per rider and £2,190 (€2,490) per pillion.
An English-speaking motorcycle tour leader, a local guide (compulsory in Vietnam), a mechanic and the driver of the support vehicle, which carries your luggage and the spare parts. The group is limited to 10 motorcycles (12 participants with pillions).
£2,690 (€2,990) per rider and £2,190 (€2,490) per pillion. The price includes the motorcycle, fuel, the team, accommodation, full board from breakfast on day 2 to breakfast on day 11 (except lunch on the rest day), the planned visits and transfers from Da Nang airport. You pay for your flights, the International Driving Permit, meals on day 1, drinks, tips and a €600 deposit per motorcycle.
The tour starts and ends in Hoi An, near Da Nang airport, and you book your own flights. Da Nang is usually reached with a connection, for example a domestic flight from Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City. Our team meets you on day 1 and takes you back to the airport on day 11, according to your flight times. To arrive earlier or stay on, ask your travel advisor about the options.
The season runs from late January to September; open dates are shown on this page, and other dates are possible on request through your travel advisor. Rain can fall late in the day: rain gear is compulsory. Month-by-month details are in our Vietnam weather guide.
In standard hotels, with two nights in Hoi An, a UNESCO World Heritage town, at the start and end of the tour. Day 7 is a rest day at Phong Nha: a boat trip to the cave in the morning, then a free afternoon.
