With majestic volcanoes, lush tropical forests, white sandy beaches, and charming colonial cities, Ecuador showcases a remarkable variety of landscapes and cultures. Nature enthusiasts will be thrilled by the biodiversity of the Ecuadorian Amazon, the Andes, and the Galapagos Islands, while history and culture lovers will appreciate the pre-Columbian archaeological sites and enduring indigenous traditions. Motorcycle trip in Ecuador

1/12 • Arrive in Quito
You’re greeted at the airport and taken straight to your hotel. Spend your first day strolling around the streets of Quito, the capital of Ecuador. This city, built on the foundations of an ancient Inca site, is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Spend some time exploring the colonial centre, known for its colourful streets, remarkable architecture, and sculptures. This marks the beginning of your South America motorbike tour. Overnight stay at a central hotel.
2/12 • Quito - Chugchilan
The adventure begins! We head towards Chugchilan at 3200m altitude. From the get-go, we can admire a spectacular view of the “Avenue of the Volcanoes” and the imposing Cotopaxi volcano, offering superb landscapes. We take mountain roads through traditional villages and farms along mountain roads. We end up in the small indigenous village of Chugchilan surrounded by lush greenery, where we spend the night. Overnight stay at a comfortable hotel.

3/12 • Chugchilan – Salinas de Guaranda
We start the day early in the morning to enjoy the best view of Lake Quilotoa from the edge of the crater at 3,900 m. Our ascent continues along the winding roads of the Andes Mountains through small country villages as we continue our exploration of the Avenue of Volcanoes. Along the way, we enjoy views of the Chimborazo volcano, driving at an altitude of over 4,000 metres, before descending towards Salinas de Guaranda at 3,500 metres. This small, typical Andean village has a rich history centred around its salt mine, but today it thrives thanks to its cheeses, chocolates and other artisanal products. Overnight stay in a rustic hotel.

4/12 • Salinas de Guaranda - Macas
Wake up to the cool air of the Andes in Salinas, where we join the locals who have come to bring their milk and learn more about cheese making and the various local products available to taste. We then head to the great lord of the Andes, the Chimborazo volcano, standing at 6,310 metres. We drive along its snow-capped summit on a road at over 4,300 metres before finally turning onto the road that leads to the Amazon. We continue our descent through Sangay National Park, with its still-active volcano and beautiful high-altitude lakes, enjoying magnificent views of the Amazon basin. We finally arrive in the quiet town of Macas, rich in the heritage of the surrounding Shuar tribes. Enjoy a relaxing moment by the pool at the comfortable lodge-style hotel.

5/12 • Macas – Cuenca
We leave Macas to cross the Amazon in the cool of the morning in search of the best beaches. Riding through the Amazon Rainforest, we enjoy the views of flowing rivers and small neighbouring communities before climbing in altitude towards the Andes. We spot waterfalls cascading through lush, green valleys. We take a short break in a village where we get the chance to meet some locals before heading back on the road towards Cuenca, a colonial city known as the gem of the Andes. Overnight stay at a comfortable hotel in the town centre.

6/12 • Cuenca – Cumanda
We leave the colonial centre of Cuenca at dawn to prepare for a day in the footsteps of the Incas. We head for the Qhapaq Nan, the royal road of the Incas, which leads us to one of Ecuador's most important archaeological sites: Ingapirca. We will learn more about this site, which combines Inca and Canari influences, and its unique architecture. Our adventure continues north on the old Pan-American Highway, through small villages and larger towns where time seems to have stood still. It is not uncommon to come across traditional festivals or other celebrations, a typical atmosphere of the Andes, which we soon leave behind for a few days, heading for the Pacific coast and its sandy beaches. It is on these winding roads that we reach the high-altitude jungle of Cumanda, where our lodge awaits us for a night surrounded by sumptuous nature. Overnight stay in a comfortable lodge-style hotel.

7/12 • Cumanda - Puerto Lopez
At sunrise, our epic journey begins as we prepare for a long but easy day of travelling across the vast agricultural basin of the country, before reaching the long-awaited Pacific coast. It is in this humid region, where rivers flow down from the mountains to meet the ocean, that the fruit farms surrounding us allow us to enjoy their aromas. Bananas, cocoa, pineapples, dragon fruit... the list is long in this tropical region that we leave behind to reach the Pacific coast, in the small town of Puerto Lopez with a sunset over the islands in the distance. A small fishing town, but also rich in tourist attractions. It is the starting point for exploring Isla de la Plata (Little Galapagos), visiting the nearby Machalilla National Marine Park, and seeing humpback whales up close, depending on the migration season. A relaxing day awaits us in this place that combines nightlife with the tranquillity of authenticity. Overnight stay in a comfortable hotel.

8/12 • Explore Puerto Lopez
This well-deserved rest day is perfect for exploring the village and its lively fishing port. There are also other options, like excursions, visits or just relaxing. For those who like boat trips, we recommend exploring Plata Island, similar to the Galapagos Islands and home to many animal species. For those who prefer, we can organise a turtle-spotting snorkelling session. You can also make the most of the protected idyllic beaches of Machalilla National Park, which will tempt you to relax or go for a stroll. Or why not visit Agua Blanca? It’s a pre-Inca community and museum full of archaeological remains with a sulphur lagoon and mud baths. And there’s nothing like ending the day with a platter of freshly caught seafood with the sun setting as your backdrop. We spend the evening in the town. Overnight stay at the hotel.
9/12 • Puerto Lopez - Canoa
We follow the Pacific Ocean a little further north along the famous Ruta de Spondylus, which takes us through small fishing villages and past paradise beaches. We then take the road through rice paddies and exotic fruit plantations. Let the sweet smell of pineapple and dragon fruit captivate you. You may even be able to ride on the beach between San Clemente and Bahia de Caraquez, depending on the tide and the group’s preference. At the end of the day, we reach Canoa, a small fishing village turn popular surfing spot. An iced coconut or a cocktail watching the sunset will make you want to stay forever. Overnight stay at a comfortable hotel.

10/12 • Canoa -Mindo
We start the day riding along the coast, weaving between exotic fruit plantations and panoramic views over the Manabi beaches. At a village crossroads, we venture onto trails that meander through prawn farms. We take a break en route at Pedernales beach, where we cross the equator’s invisible line for the first time. We sample some local sweets made of coconut, peanut and sugar cane. We leave the coast behind us and gradually find ourselves surrounded by more greenery, forests and humidity as we cross the Manabi “savannah” between hills and typical Montubio towns – the people from Ecuador's coastal countryside region. We continue our ascent and reach the cloud forest region at 1100 m altitude. Overnight stay in an hotel.

11/12 • Mindo - Quito
The adventure is not over. The cloud forest and Mindo National Reserve are full of surprises and it’s a real treat to explore their long, winding roads. The region is rich in biodiversity with a huge variety of hummingbirds, but it is also the cradle of excellent artisan coffee and chocolate factories. On crossing the equator as we head to to the capital, we'll find a monument marking the location of the line and an interactive museum that we take the time to visit. The only thing left to do now is to get back Quito city centre.

This hike includes a few long stages far from first aid. Primary assistance to reach the nearest medical center is mainly provided by our assistance vehicle, means such as helicopters or ambulances being very rare. Unstable telephone networks can occasionally make contact with emergency services difficult. As with any adventure itinerary, the difficulty of the route depends on the weather conditions, both during and before the trip.
