Come and ride the dusty tracks of Mustang, Nepal, with me on the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450.*

For 14 days, we’ll ride through high-altitude trails, remote villages, river crossings, mountain passes, and some of the most unreal landscapes in the Himalayas, with a small group of riders ready for a real adventure.

Arrive in Kathmandu - Patan
You’re met at the airport according to your flight schedule and transferred to Patan. Your room is available from midday. This "City of Beauty", as the Nepalese call it, is authentic and full of life, the perfect place to begin your Asia motorcycle tour and spend your first day acclimatising.
Patan - Chitwan Stage 2/14 106 miles (171 km)

We head southwest from Kathmandu, where we truly begin to appreciate rural Nepal. The landscape changes from one valley to another as we navigate roads that wind through traditional villages and terraced fields until we reach the Terai. In the afternoon, we take a walk through Chitwan National Park’s jungle, where the abundant flora and fauna contrast nicely with the mountainous Himalayan landscapes.
Chitwan - Tansen Stage 3/14 115 miles (185 km)

We head northwest, making our way out of the jungle up winding mountain roads to Tansen. These roads are a real playground for our Royal Enfields! We explore Tansen, a small town far from mass tourism, whose quaint streets and easy-going locals make for a relaxing stroll after a long day’s ride.

The leg to Pokhara is beautiful. The road is good and climbs up through the lush Aadhi Khola valley. We arrive near Phewa Lake in the afternoon and can enjoy some free time.
Pokhara - Tatopani Stage 5/14 81 miles (130 km)

The ride to Mustang begins! After around 50 miles (80 km), we pass through Beni, where we leave the tarmacked roads behind us and the real fun begins! The track follows the Kali Gandaki river, where the valley gradually narrows and we finally catch a glimpse of the snow-capped Annapurnas, towering over 8,000 metres!

This short 28-mile leg proves that Mustang is worth it! The first stretch to Ghasa (11 miles (18 km)) is the most difficult, for both man and machine: the track is rock-strewn and very steep in places, with many water crossings. The landscape is truly spectacular, giving us the energy we need to push on and move forward! We arrive at Marpha, a typical Mustang Buddhist village, in the early afternoon.

Today we explore the ancient kingdom of Mustang, an imposing territory of rocks and deep canyons, dominated by the highest peaks in the world! We cross Jomsom, the valley’s largest village, and gain altitude, passing the 3,500 m mark. We push on through this amazing mineral landscape and reach Muktinath (3,700 m).

We descend back into the Kali Gandaki Valley along a deserted, rocky track carved into the mountainside. The view of the summit of Dhaulagiri, at over 8,000 metres, is impressive, almost unreal. We continue on our way to the village of Tatopani.

We enjoy the first 16 miles (26 km) of trail before returning to asphalt! A delicious traditional meal awaits us in Sarangkot, with an exceptional view of Pokhara and Phewa Lake. We stop 12 miles (19 km) further on, at the top of a small hill near Begnas Lake.
Rupakot - Bandipur Stage 10/14 50 miles (80 km)
Rupakot - Bandipur
We descend the hill of Rupakot via small winding roads before crossing the main road and climbing back up to the charming village of Bandipur. We end the day with a stroll to admire the village's traditional architecture.
Bandipur - Gorkha Stage 11/14 31 miles (50 km)
Bandipur - Gorkha
A short leg, leaving time to rest in Gorkha. We take as many small roads as possible to avoid the main road, which is often busy with traffic, although some sections are unavoidable. The adventure continues!
Gorkha - Nuwakot Stage 12/14 124 miles (200 km)
Gorkha - Nuwakot
A long and beautiful day's ride takes us towards Kathmandu. As we follow the Trisuli River, our route is dotted with encounters of all kinds, set against a backdrop of lush rice fields, pine forests and imposing gorges. We stop in the charming village of Bandipur before continuing on to Nuwakot.

After a hearty breakfast served on our guesthouse’s roof garden, we hit the road for our last day of riding. We follow a narrow, beautiful road towards Shivapuri National Park before returning to the capital for lunch, where we bid farewell to our trusty steel steeds. In the afternoon, you can visit Boudhanath stupa or Pashupatinath temple. We spend our last evening in Kathmandu, in the lively Thamel neighbourhood.

  • A Royal Enfield motorcycle is provided with full mechanical assistance and all spare parts

  • Airport transfers (arrival and departure) by private vehicle, as per the programme

  • An English-speaking tour leader (on riding days)

  • Compulsory insurance: cover for medical expenses in Nepal and repatriation assistance, including accidents on large-capacity motorcycles.

  • Legal protection and cancellation insurance (strongly recommended).

  • Visa costs

  • Payment : A 50% deposit when you book and the balance 45 days before departure, by secure online payment. A £31 registration fee applies to your first trip with us only. Learn more
  • Cancellation : Fees depend on the date, from 15% of the price more than 60 days before departure to 100% less than 8 days before, plus handling fees. Learn more
  • Insurance : Medical and repatriation insurance is compulsory. Bring your own policy or take our partner's, at £18 per day. Learn more
  • Riding gear : Helmets and riding gear are not provided. Bring an approved helmet, jacket, gloves and boots. Learn more
  • Travelling solo : You share a twin room with another participant, or book a single room for a supplement, subject to availability. Learn more

This expedition is reserved for experienced riders. It includes long stages at high altitude (passes above 3,500 metres), far from immediate medical help. Our support vehicle provides first assistance in reaching the nearest medical centre, as helicopters and ambulances are very rare. Limited phone coverage can make it difficult to contact emergency services. As on any mountain route, road quality and difficulty depend on the weather, both during and before the trip.
