1/12 • Arrive in Negombo
You are met at the airport and taken 20 minutes by car to Negombo, a fishing port and coastal resort. After you settle in at the hotel, take some time for beach- or pool-based R & R before embarking on your Asia motorcycle tour. From the shore, you can admire the flotilla of oruwas, traditional fishing boats whose square sails dance on the ocean, offering a first taste of the rich maritime culture that awaits you on this incredible journey.

2/12 • Negombo - Kalpitiya
We begin the tour by heading north towards Kalpitiya Peninsula, along a series of minor coastal roads and some smaller tracks, passing through charming fishing villages. We reach a stretch lined by huge coconut plantations, which then give way to shrimp farms. We veer off onto the peninsula and ride between the lagoon and the ocean.

3/12 • Kalpitiya - Sigiriya
We enter a plain dotted with jungles, rice fields, coconut groves, mango trees, all embellished with numerous reservoirs. Detour to the ancient ephemeral capital of Yapahuwa dating from the 13th century.

4/12 • Sigiriya
Today, at dawn, we climb the famous Lion Rock, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Then, a superb drive along small country roads and paths running alongside irrigation canals takes us to the Buddhist caves of Dambulla.

5/12 • Sigiriya - Trincomalee
This morning, we head north-east. Twenty kilometres of charming little roads, forest tracks, and then a magnificent ribbon of tarmac that runs straight to the coast. At midday, we reach the large bay of Trincomalee, a splendid natural harbour coveted by the maritime powers of centuries past.

6/12 • Trincomalee - Maduru Oya
We drive south through the endless eastern plains, dotted with unspoilt expanses, gigantic lakes and protected nature reserves. This whole part of the island is relatively uncrowded, and today's journey takes us to Maduru Oya National Park.

7/12 • Maduru Oya - Knuckles
We drive westwards with the impressive Knuckles mountain range, which remains very wild, in our sights. Then a smooth, well-designed road takes us up into the coolness of the tropical forests at an altitude of over 1,000 metres. Finally, the first tea plantations and rural villages bring this beautiful stage to a close!

8/12 • Knuckles - Nuwara Eliya
Today we venturing into the heart of the island, climbing 2,000 metres into the highlands overlooked by the country’s highest peaks. The road winds through several tea plantations and their beautifully cultivated formations. When we reach Nuwara Eliya, the country’s highest city, you’ll soon realise that its nickname “Little England” is no exaggeration: it still carries a strong British influence.

9/12 • Nuwara Eliya - Ella
We are in the heart of Sri Lanka's tea ‘factory’. We follow a deliberately winding route in order to see as much as possible of this unique region. We also cross the country's milk plateau, where it almost feels like we have arrived in New Zealand.

10/12 • Ella - Udawalawe
Early departure for the last few kilometres in the mountains. Stop at Diyaluma Falls, the third highest waterfall in the country. In the plains, we admire the large carved Buddhas of Buduru Wagala, before continuing on to Udawalawe National Park for an elephant safari at the end of the day.

11/12 • Udawalawe - Galle
For this final stage, head to the much sought-after south coast via a cocktail of winding country lanes through lush tropical countryside. We're off to Galle, the old Dutch fortified town. After exploring the ramparts and walkways of the old Dutch fort, take the time to stroll through the narrow streets and numerous high-quality shops.

Today we ride to Colombo. You are then transferred to the airport in a private vehicle based on your flight time. Important: Make sure that you book an evening flight.

This hike includes stages far from first aid. Primary assistance to reach the nearest medical center is mainly provided by our assistance vehicle, means such as helicopters or ambulances being very rare. Limited telephone networks can make contact with emergency services difficult. As with any adventure itinerary, the difficulty of the route depends on the weather conditions, both during and before the trip.
