Arrival in Arequipa Stage 1/13
Arrival in Arequipa
Hola Arequipa! Situated at an altitude of 7547 feet, this colonial city will be your first stop on this South America motorcycle tour. We welcome you at the airport to take you to your hotel in a private vehicle. Take the time to stroll through the streets of the city known as the "white city" and let yourself be charmed by its architecture and warm atmosphere.
Arequipa - Colca Canyon Stage 2/13 137 miles
Arequipa - Colca Canyon
It's D-Day! On our Royal Enfields, we start with a road that quickly takes us to high altitude into a vicuña zone. We are now truly in the heart of the Andean plateaus. We cross the highest pass of our trip, Abra Patapampa (16109 feet).
Colca Canyon - Espinar Stage 3/13 155 miles
Colca Canyon - Espinar
After a final stretch of paved road, we cover more than 50 miles of dirt track through the Andean meadows. We then get back on the road to make a detour to the beautiful pre-Columbian ruins of Kanamarka.
Espinar - Cuzco Stage 4/13 143 miles

We wake up early and head out on a superb dual-carriageway road, still winding around 13123 feet of altitude, then we take a beautiful mountain track adorned with a few alpaca farms and pass a string of mountain lakes.
Cuzco Stage 5/13
Cuzco
Today is our first rest day, and you've already earned it after three big days of riding. We recommend waking up early for a morning walk in Cusco, getting lost in the small streets of the San Blas neighborhood, but don't miss visiting the Temple of the Sun or the beautiful Plaza de Armas.

We set off this morning for a rich day, as we head towards the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Ruins, agricultural haciendas, viewpoints over high mountains, this region has so much to offer, including the Maras salt pans and the incredible and mysterious Inca agricultural site of Moray. Many tracks are on the agenda today, some as smooth as a national highway!

Ollantaytambo - Round trip to Machu Picchu
Today we let the motorcycles rest. It is from here that we take the train towards Aguas Calientes, the stopover town for Machu Picchu. What imagination and labor it must have taken to build a city in this location! Once up there, the crowd thins out, and it's pleasant to get lost in these ruins, amidst a fantastic natural setting.
Ollantaytambo - Quince Mil Stage 8/13 199 miles
Ollantaytambo - Quince Mil
A big stage today, which is easily done on good and beautiful paved roads almost all the way. We will leave the Andean highlands for 24 hours. We leave the Sacred Valley with a stop in Pisac, another pretty little town of character. We follow the Urubamba River for a while, before arriving on the Interoceanica, a recent axis that goes all the way to Brazil and the Atlantic coast.
Quince Mil - Macusani Stage 9/13 140 miles

After a gentle night in the Amazon basin, lulled by the symphony of myriad nocturnal insects, we set off again to conquer the Andean plateaus, and once again enjoy a significant elevation gain in one day, 12139 feet this time. An easy and very smooth stage, on magnificent roads once again.
Macusani - Llachon (Lake Titicaca) Stage 10/13 174 miles

Bristling with small mountain ranges, beautiful reliefs, and snowy cornices, we ride through the endless pampa grasslands, towards the shores of South America's largest lake, Titicaca. When we finally set our wheels on its western shore, it's not a lake but a true inland sea that bursts forth with its deep and intense blue!
Llachon (Lake Titicaca) Stage 11/13
Llachon (Lake Titicaca)
Second rest day, well-deserved once again. Walks along the shore of Lake Titicaca or an excursion to the surrounding islands of Lake Titicaca, including the most authentic, Taquile Island.
Llachon - Arequipa Stage 12/13 211 miles
Llachon - Arequipa
Final flourish, our last day is undoubtedly the biggest part of the trip; we need to reach Arequipa, our starting point. Long main roads to gain average speed, with a few off-road detours. Arrival in Arequipa, and well-deserved rest. Overnight at the hotel.

Depending on your flight schedule, you have time to enjoy Arequipa for a few more hours. Transfer to the international airport.

  • Mandatory insurance: insurance covering medical expenses on site. Repatriation assistance, which covers you in case of two-wheeler accidents (large displacement).

This raid is reserved for experienced riders. It includes long stages at high altitude (passes > 14764 feet), far from first aid. Primary assistance to reach the nearest medical center is mainly provided by our support vehicle, as means such as helicopters or ambulances are very rare. Limited telephone networks and the prohibition of satellite phones can make contact with emergency services difficult. As with any mountain itinerary, the quality of the roads and the difficulty of the route depend on weather conditions, both during and before the trip.
