Welcome to Ecuador, a country located on the west coast of South America and crossed by the equatorial line, from which it takes its name. With its majestic volcanoes, lush tropical forests, white sandy beaches, and picturesque colonial cities, Ecuador offers a variety of fascinating landscapes and cultures. The best way to discover these landscapes is by motorcycle. Nature enthusiasts will be delighted by the rich biodiversity of the Ecuadorian Amazon, the Andes mountain range, and the Galápagos Islands, while history and culture lovers will appreciate the pre-Columbian archaeological sites and the still-vibrant indigenous traditions. Arrival in Quito
You are welcomed at the airport and transferred directly to your hotel. Take advantage of this first day to wander through the streets of Quito, the capital of Ecuador. This city was built on the foundations of an ancient Inca city and declared a cultural heritage of humanity by UNESCO. Take the opportunity to visit the colonial center, renowned for its colorful streets, the architecture of its buildings, and its sculptures. This stop is one of the first on South America motorcycle tours that will lead you through incredible landscapes. Overnight in a comfortable hotel in the center.
Quito - Chugchilan Étape 2/12 93 miles

The adventure begins! Heading to Chugchilan, located at 10499 feet elevation. From the very first miles, we can admire a breathtaking view of the “Avenue of Volcanoes” like the majestic Cotopaxi, offering superb landscapes. We cross small typical villages and agricultural farms through mountain roads. We finally arrive at the small indigenous village of Chugchilan, nestled in greenery where we spend the night. Overnight in a comfortable hotel.

We start the day early in the morning to enjoy the best view of Quilotoa Volcano's lake from the crater rim at 12795 feet. Our ascent continues on the winding roads of the Andes mountain range through small country villages to continue our exploration of the Avenue of Volcanoes. Throughout the route, we enjoy views of Chimborazo Volcano, riding at over 13123 feet elevation, before descending towards Salinas de Guaranda, at 11483 feet. This typical small Andean village has a rich history centered around its salt mine, but today it thrives thanks to its cheeses, chocolates, and other artisanal products. Overnight in a rustic hotel.
Salinas de Guaranda - Macas Étape 4/12 152 miles including 12 miles off road
Salinas de Guaranda - Macas
Wake up in the coolness of the Andes, in Salinas, where we join locals bringing their milk and learn more about cheese making and various local products to taste. We then head towards the great lord of the Andes, Chimborazo Volcano, standing at 20702 feet. We ride along its snow-capped summit on a road over 14108 feet before finally heading towards the road that leads to the Amazon. It is through Sangay National Park, with its still-active volcano and beautiful high-altitude lakes, that we continue our descent, enjoying magnificent views of the Amazon basin. We finally arrive in the quiet city of Macas, rich in its heritage of Shuar tribal traditions all around. Enjoy a relaxing moment by the pool of the comfortable lodge-style hotel.
Macas – Cuenca Étape 5/12 138 miles including 6 miles of off road

We leave Macas to cross the Amazon in the cool morning, searching for the best landscapes. Crossing the Amazon rainforest, we enjoy views of the rising rivers and small neighboring communities before ascending back into the Andes. We spot waterfalls cascading through the green valleys. A short break in a village to meet locals before heading back on a winding road towards Cuenca, a colonial city known as the Jewel of the Andes. Overnight in a comfortable hotel in the historic center.
Cuenca – Cumanda Étape 6/12 143 miles including 6 miles off road

We leave the colonial center of Cuenca at dawn to prepare for a day following in the footsteps of the Incas. Indeed, we head to the Qhapaq Ñan, the royal Inca road, which leads us to one of Ecuador's most important archaeological sites: Ingapirca. We will learn more about this site, a blend of Inca and Cañari cultures, and its unique architecture. Our adventure continues north on the old Panamericana, through small villages and larger towns where time seems to have stood still. It's not uncommon to stumble upon traditional festivals or other celebrations, a typical Andean atmosphere, which we soon leave behind for a few days, heading towards the Pacific coast and its fine sandy beaches. It is on these winding roads that we reach the high-altitude jungle of Cumanda, where our Lodge awaits us to spend the night surrounded by sumptuous nature. Overnight in a comfortable, lodge-style hotel.
Cumanda - Puerto Lopez Étape 7/12 208 miles

At sunrise, our epic journey begins, preparing for a long, easy day in terms of terrain, through the country's large agricultural basin, before reaching the long-awaited Pacific coast. It is in this humid region, where rivers descend from the mountains to meet the ocean, that the surrounding fruit agriculture allows us to enjoy its aromas. Bananas, Cocoa, Pineapples, Dragon fruits... the list is long in this tropical region that we leave behind to reach the Pacific coast, in the small town of Puerto Lopez with a sunset over the islands in the distance. A small fishing town but also rich in tourist interest. It is indeed the starting point to discover Isla de la Plata (little Galapagos), visit the nearby Machalilla National Marine Park, and also see humpback whales up close, depending on the migration season. A day of relaxation awaits us in this place mixing nightlife and the tranquility of the authenticity of the place. Overnight in a comfortable hotel.
Discovery of Puerto Lopez Étape 8/12
Discovery of Puerto Lopez
This well-deserved rest day is perfect for visiting the town, especially its lively fishing port. Many activities are possible: sightseeing, relaxing, excursions. For those who wish, we offer a boat excursion to discover Isla de la Plata, similar to the famous Galapagos Islands, which is home to many animal species. For those who prefer, we will organize a diving session to admire the turtles. Also enjoy the paradisiacal beaches protected by Machalilla National Park, an invitation to rest and walk; as well as a natural Spa in the sulfurous waters and mud baths of Agua Blanca, a pre-Inca indigenous community with its museum filled with archaeological remains. Nothing beats a platter of freshly caught seafood to end the day with the sunset as a backdrop. Evening in the town. Overnight at the hotel.
Puerto Lopez - Canoa Étape 9/12 132 miles including 16 miles of off road

We continue along the Pacific Ocean a little further, heading north on the famous Ruta del Spondylus, which takes us through small fishing villages and other paradisiacal beaches. We then take the road winding through rice paddies and exotic fruit plantations. Let yourself be intoxicated by the sweet scent of pineapple and dragon fruit. It's possible to ride on the beach between San Clemente and Bahia de Caraquez depending on the tide or the group's general desire. At the end of the day, we reach Canoa, which combines a small fishing village with a popular surfing spot. An iced coconut or a cocktail facing the sunset will make you want to settle there. Overnight in a comfortable hotel.
Canoa - Mindo Étape 10/12 174 miles

We start the day riding on coastal roads winding between exotic fruit plantations and panoramic views of the Manabi beaches. Around a village, we venture onto tracks that cross shrimp farming ponds. We make a stop en route on Pedernales beach, where we cross the invisible line of the Equator for the first time. We take the opportunity to taste local sweets made from coconut, peanuts, and sugar cane. We leave the coast and gradually find more greenery, forests, and humidity as we cross the Manabi “savanna” between hills and typical villages of the Montubios, the coastal region's farmers. We continue our ascent to reach the cloud forest region at an elevation of 3609 feet. Overnight in a unique hotel.
Mindo - Quito Étape 11/12 62 miles
Mindo - Quito
The adventure is not over. The cloud forest and Mindo National Reserve are full of surprises and a real delight to explore along their winding roads. The region is rich in biodiversity with its immense variety of hummingbirds, but also the birthplace of excellent artisanal coffee and chocolate factories. Crossing the Equator line towards the capital, we discover a monument symbolizing the crossing of this imaginary line, as well as an interactive museum that we take the time to visit. All that remains is to reach the city center of Quito.

This ride includes some long stages far from first aid. Primary assistance to reach the nearest medical center is mainly provided by our assistance vehicle, as means such as helicopters or ambulances are very rare. Unstable telephone networks can occasionally make contact with emergency services difficult. As with any adventure itinerary, the difficulty of the route depends on weather conditions, both during and before the trip.
