Vietnam was our third trip with Vintage and possibly our most enjoyable. Boris was a very professional tour guide and we had some fantastic riding while seeing some stunning scenery.
I wouldn't travel with a multi lingual group again. It was hard to spend 10 days with people I couldn't speak to. I would not ride again with people who don't have the necessary skills to ride. The various levels of skills and waiting for slow riders was frustrating
Everything was great except I would have enjoyed it more if less time had been spent riding and more relaxing and taking in the beauty of the land. The group members were in a race it seemed riding at high speeds and covering over 250 miles some days. Toward the end of the day I felt sore all over, tired and unsafe to be on the bike. One of the things I’ve been told repeatedly during my training is to beware of fatigue as it can affect your reaction and alertness. Several times during this trip I felt unsafe. I felt pressured to keep up with riders with 50 years of riding experience against my 1 and started making mistakes which could’ve easily cost me my life. Daily trips should be five hours. It would’ve been ok if less territory had been covered and more time allowed for leisure, socialising, reading etc. To my dissatisfaction I’ve learned from other riders that other vintage rides trios have the same intensity and if that’s the case I will look for another company.
Certainly a trip to remember! So much ground covered with such a friendly group. Lead and supported by a terrific team offering full support at all times.
As someone who has ridden and restored motorcycles for the most part of the last 50 years, but who has never ridden off-road at all, this was the perfect first experience for me! The quality of the organisation, logistics, accommodation and instructor/guide, coupled with the perfect motorcycle for the job, allowed me to both enjoy the experience to the max whilst also leaving me to fully focus on the riding, learning a huge amount about the techiques needed, but also about my own capabilities and limits, all the time feeling perfectly secure! Thanks John and the VR team!
I learned during this trip that I am a much more capable off road rider than I ever thought. The people of Nepal were welcoming and friendly, and, even though the roads were much rougher than I believed they would be, the Royal Enfields we rode handled it all beautifully and helped boost my confidence level greatly.
Out of the five trips I have been on with Vintage Rides, this is the one I felt most disconnected with. I was looking forward to the trip, but by day 3, I just wanted to ride by myself. I am will to and have spent over 10,000 to go on trips ( Pamir Highway) , my next trip the Malle Artic challenge in August is over 7000 euros, but I would not spend this on a vintage rides trip.
