Embark on an extraordinary mechanical expedition into the heart of winter Mongolia, amidst endless steppes, frozen lakes, and extreme conditions that can reach -40°F. A Royal Enfield sidecar adventure designed for self-transcendence, solidarity, and pure exploration. This trip plunges you into a raw and silent Mongolia, far from all civilization. You'll ride on snowy and frozen tracks, through magnificent landscapes where immensity and cold dictate the pace. This Mongolia motorcycle tour is punctuated by powerful moments: immersion with nomadic families, nights in traditional yurts, and warm breaks in natural hot springs in the wilderness. Between effort and contemplation, you discover a unique territory, marked by its traditions, culture, and extreme isolation. A true committed expedition, where the cold becomes a challenge and the steppe an absolute adventure playground, on Royal Enfield sidecars specially prepared for the most demanding conditions.

Ulaanbaatar - Ugii Nuur

This morning, we leave the city by minibus to reach our operational base in Dashinchilen, the gateway to the great steppes. After a Mongolian lunch and getting acquainted with the sidecars, we set off on a long asphalt straight to tame the machine and the cold. The last miles are on a snowy track leading to Lake Ugii, frozen by nearly one meter of ice, where we perform our first controlled slides before spending the night in a ger facing the lake.

Ugii Nuur – Tsenkher Hot Springs

This morning we cross the frozen lake to reach the village of Ugiinuur and warm up with a coffee. The day continues on a long corrugated iron track, in an almost lunar white landscape punctuated by herds of horses and camels. After lunch in the middle of the steppe, we reach the Tsenkher valley, where the mountains are covered with snowy forests, before relaxing in the steaming pools of the hot springs and spending the night there.

Free morning to fully enjoy the hot baths or walk to the spring that gushes at nearly 187°F in the heart of the valley. After lunch, we get back on the sidecars and head south along the frozen river, then along beautiful, more technical tracks, bordered by forests and herds of yaks. The sensations intensify with the climbs and descents to our isolated camp, where we share salty tea, stories, and the warmth of the stove.

Ikh Khan Khubilai – Kharkhorin

We leave the valley by a steep climb where 4x4s break the trail, before progressing on a more challenging track towards the mythical Orkhon Valley. Between rocky sections, marked reliefs, and immense panoramas, the morning requires concentration and mutual aid to get each sidecar through. After lunch, we follow the river then a brand new fast road to Kharkhorin, the ancient capital of the Mongol Empire, which we discover during a cultural visit and a traditional concert in the evening.

Kharkhorin – Khogno Khan
6/8 • Kharkhorin – Khogno Khan
A relaxed start this morning towards the “Little Gobi”, between open steppes and livestock enclosures. The tracks wind between hills and herds before our lunch amidst the horses, in a wide snowy valley. In the afternoon, we reach the Khogno Khan dunes and our nomadic camel herder family; a camel ride in the frozen dunes is offered to those who wish, before an authentic and warm evening under the family ger.

Khogno Khan – Dashinchilen – Ulaanbaatar
7/8 • Khogno Khan – Dashinchilen – Ulaanbaatar
For this last day of riding, we follow the sacred mountain of Khogno Khan on a beautiful playful track heading north, deep in wolf territory. A stop at a prayer rock marks our ultimate spiritual moment before villages and more open steppes gradually reappear around Dashinchilen. After a final lunch, we return our mounts and take the minibus back to Ulaanbaatar for a last convivial dinner.

Last free hours in the capital to stroll, do some shopping or revisit your favorite places, before your transfer to the airport. Those staying an extra night can still explore museums, cafes and shops, while the group gradually disperses towards their return flights. End of this winter sidecar adventure in the heart of Mongolia, heads filled with icy light, white tracks and encounters.

  • A sidecar with Royal Enfield motorcycle and spare parts, each vehicle being occupied by two riders who alternate driving and passenger positions every 1 to 1.5 hours for safety reasons related to extreme cold conditions.

  • Fuel, parking, any tolls.

  • Third-party motorcycle insurance.

  • Mandatory insurance: insurance covering medical expenses on site. Repatriation assistance, which covers you in case of 2-wheel (large displacement) accidents.

  • Legal insurance and cancellation insurance highly recommended.

  • International driving permit.

The winter raid in Mongolia, in the heart of January, is exclusively for very experienced riders. It involves long stages in isolated areas, far from any emergency infrastructure. In case of emergency, the first assistance to reach the nearest medical center is mainly provided by our assistance vehicle, as rapid evacuation means such as helicopters or ambulances are extremely rare in these regions. Telephone coverage being limited and unstable, contact with emergency services can be difficult. As with any itinerary in extreme winter conditions and at altitude, the condition of the tracks and the difficulty of the route depend heavily on weather conditions, before and during the trip.

For safety reasons related to extreme temperatures, each sidecar will be occupied by two riders who will alternate driving and passenger positions every 1 to 1.5 hours to limit prolonged exposure to cold and fatigue.
