Namaste! Welcome to Delhi, the lively Indian capital. Our representative will meet you at the airport on arrival with all your documents and schedule for tomorrow's flight to Leh. A private car will take you to your hotel. For your first day, you can either rest up at the hotel or head out to discover the bustling capital. Note: your tour guide will be waiting for you in Leh

After an early breakfast, head to Leh by air. Once you arrive in the beautiful capital of Ladakh, it is important to slow down to acclimatize to the altitude - you are at 11,483 feet - before starting this fabulous India motorcycle tour.
Leh - Leh (Indus Valley) Stage 3/13 49.7 miles
Leh - Leh (Indus Valley)
To get acquainted with the bikes, we do a loop southeast of Leh on both banks of the Indus, staying within the same altitude range to properly acclimatize while discovering some of the most beautiful Ladakhi monasteries, such as Mato or Thiksey. A beautiful introduction to Tibetan Buddhism. Overnight at 11,483 ft.
Leh - Temisgam Stage 4/13 81 miles (3.7 miles track)

We make the most of the Indus Valley west of Leh, taking as many less-traveled small roads as possible, which offer us a complete picture of Central Ladakh: oasis villages, preserved landscapes, stretches of track, and the very ancient Alchi monastery, before emerging into the superb basin of Temisgam, through the artists' entrance... Overnight at 10,827 ft.

We continue to descend along the Indus, through impressive gorges to Dargoo. Then we climb the road to Kuksho Pass, to descend into the Chiktan Valley, the Shiite world of the Baltis; we are on the border of the Muslim and Buddhist worlds. Then the first crossing above 13,123 feet with the Fotu Pass, to then reach Lamayuru, the oldest Tibetan monastery in Ladakh. Overnight at 11,483 ft.
Lamayuru - Padum Stage 6/13 115 miles (56 miles track)
Lamayuru - Padum
This day promises to be one of the most intense and spectacular. Track or under construction for a good part, to almost reach the 16,404 feet altitude mark, with the Singi Pass (16,257 ft). After crossing the unforgettable Zanskar gorges, we enter the vast eponymous valley. A remote, still preserved region, with landscapes of raw beauty. Overnight at 11,155 ft.
Padum - Jispa Stage 7/13 93 miles (25 miles track)

We ascend the Tsarap and Kurgiak rivers, gaining altitude to cross our first pass above 16,404 feet: the Shinku La (16,568 ft). Before the pass, we admire the imposing Gombok peak, a mesmerizing shark's tooth. Then we descend into the Lahaul region. We have left Ladakh, to return tomorrow. Overnight at 10,827 ft.
Jispa - Tso Khar Stage 8/13 130 miles (22 miles track)

A beautiful and big day today: we ride on the NH2, the classic Trans-Himalayan, a mythical road and the oldest link between Leh and the rest of the country. Three passes, one at 16,667 feet, and two above 16,076 feet. After the first, we do not descend below 13,123 ft for two days. At the end of the stage, the Pang gorges, the Morey plain, and finally the Tso Khar salt lake. We are in Changtang, the most inhospitable, but beautiful, region of Ladakh. Overnight at 15,092 ft.
Tso Khar - Tso Moriri Stage 9/13 49.7 miles (18.6 miles track)
Tso Khar - Tso Moriri
We stay in Changtang and at very high altitude all day, between 14,764 and 16,404 feet. A shorter stage, as we need to give the riders a little rest. Region of the Changpā nomads, yak herders and the famous Pashmina goat, from which cashmere wool comes, we are close to Tibet, and you should bring back some unique photos! Overnight in a camp in the village of Korzok, at 14,764 feet, the highest night of the trip.
Tso Moriri - Pangong Tso Stage 10/13 96 miles (Optional track)

We take an unconventional route, enriched by several mountain lakes, as well as a pass culminating at 17,838 feet, higher than the famous Khardung La, and the highest point of our journey. A magnificent day, in the heart of a wild and preserved environment. Full day in Changtang, where you can meet nomadic herders but also Kyang, the wild asses of Tibet. Overnight on the Sino-Indian border, on the shores of Pangong Lake, at 14,108 feet.
Pangong Tso - Leh Stage 11/13 115 miles
Pangong Tso - Leh
We leave the azure waters of Pangong Lake and head towards Leh. Passing through Chang La pass (17,520 ft), which, depending on the season, can experience significant traffic (local tourism). Then this long and beautiful descent towards the Indus Valley, which you saw at the beginning. Arrived in Leh, you have a little time left to do some last-minute shopping if needed, before our farewell dinner.
Leh - Delhi Stage 12/13 Domestic flight (1h20)

Your incredible discovery of the Indian Himalayas comes to an end… Early morning transfer to Leh airport, to catch your plane. Transfer to the hotel and the rest of the day free in the capital. Overnight at the hotel. We strongly suggest taking an international flight the next day in the afternoon or evening. Flights from Leh can be postponed in case of bad weather.

  • A Royal Enfield motorcycle and spare parts.

  • Supervision: An English-speaking motorcycle guide (on riding days).

  • Gasoline, parking, any tolls.

     

  • Mandatory insurance: insurance covering medical expenses on site. Repatriation assistance, which covers you in case of 2-wheel accidents (large displacement).

  • Legal insurance and cancellation insurance highly recommended.

  • International driving permit.

This adventure tour calls for very good riding skills, off-road experience and good fitness: about a quarter of the route on tracks with technical sections (river crossings, rocky and narrow trails, sand and dust), passes above 16,400 ft and changeable, sometimes cold weather. Accommodation is simple to basic, with little hot water at Pangong. Passengers not recommended.

Some stages are far from medical facilities: first aid and transport to the nearest medical center rely mainly on our support vehicle, as helicopters and ambulances are rare, and phone coverage can be patchy. As on any adventure route, road conditions depend on the weather during and before the trip.
