10 stages - 388 miles
Arrive in Kochi - Taxi to Cranganor Stage 1/10
Arrive in Kochi - Taxi to Cranganor
You are met at Kochi airport and transferred to your hotel. The setting chosen for your arrival in the land of spices invites you to unwind, on the banks of the beautiful Periyar river in natural surroundings.
Historical tour of Muziris Stage 2/10 16 miles
Historical tour of Muziris
On the program today: Muziris, the first port town to welcome the merchant sailors who came in search of spices, all amid the lush vegetation and languor of the coastal plains. A perfect introduction to Kerala!
Cranganor - Munnar Stage 3/10 87 miles
Cranganor - Munnar
We wind due east across the lush plain, then climb along the Periyar river before tackling the twisting roads up to Munnar. The region is one of the most renowned in India for its tea.
Munnar - Muttukad Stage 4/10 50 miles
Munnar - Muttukad
We start with a long loop through the tea plantations, along the edge of Eravikulam National Park and the Kannan Devan Hills. After dessert, we visit a tea factory. It is an exceptional day, when everything is perfect and everything is dazzling.
Muttukad - Thekkady Stage 5/10 62 miles
Muttukad - Thekkady
This stage keeps us all day in the typical hills of the Keralan Western Ghats. What Munnar is to tea, Thekkady is to spices: their capital. A visit to a spice garden and to Periyar nature reserve is on the program.
Thekkady - Vembanad Lake Stage 6/10 81 miles
Thekkady - Vembanad Lake
Now we must come back down from our mountains, on a superb road that gives us our last views over hills planted with tea. We reach the eastern shore of the immense Vembanad Lake, in the heart of the famous backwaters.
Vembanad - Backwaters Stage 7/10 31 miles
Vembanad - Backwaters
We spend this afternoon and tonight on a kettuvallam, the traditional houseboat. To reach it, we follow the small roads used by the people of the lagoon. We then let ourselves drift through this world of water until the next morning.
Backwaters - Marari Stage 8/10 31 miles
Backwaters - Marari
And to finish, the beach! We ride one last short loop through the charming countryside around the backwaters before reaching the coast.
Marari - Kochi Stage 9/10 31 miles
Marari - Kochi
We ride back up the coast roads to reach our final destination in time for lunch. You then set off to explore Fort Kochi and its beautiful colonial past, with its Dutch and Portuguese architecture, centuries-old churches and a lively yet peaceful local life.
Kochi - Airport Stage 10/10
Kochi - Airport
Your room is reserved until 10 a.m. Transfer to the airport, or continue your stay.
