The vibrant coastline of the Western Cape province will enchant you all the way to the confluence of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. From Route 62 to the edges of the Karoo desert, let your single-cylinder engine sing on spectacular tracks, winding through passes, canyons, and immense wild expanses. Discover a region rich in history, a land of world-renowned vineyards, savor an infectious art of living, and finally, at the end of a demanding itinerary for both riders and their machines, tread on the rock of the mythical Cape of Good Hope. Arrival in Cape Town
1/10 • Arrival in Cape Town
Upon your arrival at the airport, you will be greeted and driven to your hotel located right in the city center. This will be your first contact with this mythical, dynamic, and cosmopolitan city, perfect for starting your Africa motorcycle tour. Nestled in a protected bay, the city is dominated by the imposing Table Mountain, which you can reach by cable car offering panoramic views (not included). Explore the historic city center on foot to the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, from where boats depart for Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years. You will also meet your motorcycle guide at the end of the day.
Cape Town – Hermanus
2/10 • Cape Town – Hermanus
The long-awaited moment has arrived; we start our Royal Enfield motorcycles and quickly leave Cape Town behind to head towards the southeast coast. The road along the coastline, with perfect asphalt, offers magnificent views of the sparkling waters of False Bay. Our lunch break is in Betty's Bay, where a penguin colony has made its home. After traveling an additional 31 miles, we reach the charming seaside resort of Hermanus, renowned for its traditional houses with black thatched roofs and its spectacular coastal path, ideal for exploring at sunset.

Hermanus – Barrydale
3/10 • Hermanus – Barrydale
We start early in the morning and cover the first miles off asphalt roads, taking good, passable tracks towards Cape Agulhas, the southernmost point of the African continent. The iodine-laden sea air gives us a taste of the end of the world, and the local restaurant chef treats us to the catch of the day. In the afternoon, the track climbs north towards the Langeberg Mountains. At the end of the day, we reach the picturesque small town of Barrydale by passing through the Tradouw Pass.

Barrydale – Volmoed

We prepare for an intense day that opens the doors to the "Klein Karoo," a region that serves as the entrance to the vast Karoo desert, covering nearly a third of the country. We ride on the most technical track of the journey to reach our magnificent lunch spot. We then take the famous Route 62 for a few miles, a road popular with bikers whose powerful German or American machines devour the long straightaways. The changing reliefs of the mountains never leave the horizon, and the miles fly by in a setting worthy of a western. We spend the night in a charming country guesthouse.

Volmoed - Swartberg
5/10 • Volmoed - Swartberg
We start the day by exploring the Swartberg mountain range, not forgetting a stop at an ostrich farm. We then take a little-used track that leads us directly to the Meiringspoort gorges, a passage north towards the vast "Great Karoo." The landscapes become distinctly more arid and the temperature rises a notch. Once we arrive in the picturesque village of Prince Albert, we enjoy the coolness of a garden to savor the delicious local cuisine. If weather conditions permit, we tackle the Swartberg Pass (at 5249 feet of elevation), whose track carved into the mountainside has held strong for nearly 140 years. In the late afternoon, we reach our hotel for the day to rest.

Oudtshoorn – Matjiesfontein
6/10 • Oudtshoorn – Matjiesfontein
We leave very early for an intensive stage! A beautiful track runs along the mountains and leads us to the small town of Calitzdorp, famous for its port wine production. After traveling about 19 miles on Route 62, we venture into the impressive Seweweekspoort canyon. As we approach our destination, the landscapes become increasingly desert-like and magnificent! We make a stop in Matjiesfontein, a hamlet founded in the late 19th century and remarkably preserved.

Matjiesfontein – Montagu
7/10 • Matjiesfontein – Montagu
This morning, we take Highway 1 for about 31 miles, before turning south towards the mysterious expanses of Anysberg. This road is the longest in South Africa, connecting Cape Town to Johannesburg. A deserted track guides us to Oubergs Pass, and we arrive at our stop for the day, a wildlife reserve nestled in an isolated valley. Once settled in the reserve, we go on a jeep safari in search of wildlife. At nightfall, we gather around a braai: a local barbecue and a true institution in the country.

Montagu – Stellenbosch
8/10 • Montagu – Stellenbosch
After traveling about 19 miles on a track, we cross the spa village of Montagu and continue south towards the Breede River valley, which marks the entrance to the wine region. We pass the magnificent Franschhoek Pass, and stop for lunch in the small village of the same name, nicknamed "the French corner," founded in the late 17th century by a community of Huguenots and home to some of the best vineyards in the region. We end the day in Stellenbosch, the epicenter of South African vineyards where you can taste different wines and enjoy wonderful gastronomic experiences!

Franschhoek – Cape Town
9/10 • Franschhoek – Cape Town
This is the last day of our motorcycle journey through the wild Cape Peninsula. After traveling about 37 miles on an easily passable road, we reach the ocean and stop in the charming historic port of Simon's Town, once a Royal Navy base in the 19th century. Then, we take a magnificent coastal road that crosses a national park swept by sea winds, until we reach the mythical Cape of Good Hope! For our return to Cape Town, we take the fabulous Chapman's Peak Drive, carved into the cliffside.

This raid includes long stages far from first aid. Primary assistance to reach the nearest medical center is mainly provided by our support vehicle, as means such as helicopters or ambulances are very rare. Unstable telephone networks can occasionally make contact with emergency services difficult. Like any adventure itinerary, the difficulty of the route depends on the weather conditions during and before the trip.
