Welcome to Rwanda! We'll greet you at the airport before heading to your hotel in downtown Kigali, where modernity and vibrancy attest to the country's economic and cultural dynamism. This first immersion sets the tone for your Africa motorcycle tour. At the end of the day, meet your motorcycle guide to prepare for this unique adventure.
Kigali - Lake Burera Étape 2/9 87 miles including 37 miles of trails
Kigali - Lake Burera
It's D-Day, our Royal Enfields devour the first miles on a beautiful asphalt road through the hills. After lunch, first off-road experience on good trails following the terrain. As we approach the lodge, we discover the magnificent panorama of the "Virungas" range, including the Karisimbi volcano, culminating at 14764 feet of altitude.
Lake Burera - Gisenyi Étape 3/9 68 miles including 28 miles of trails

In the early morning, those of you who have decided to treat yourselves to the gorilla trek will set off with a local guide to explore the large primary forest covering the volcanoes. For the others, a motorcycle ride to the small town of Ruhengeri, where we visit the local market. The whole group meets for lunch, and we get back in the saddle to head towards the warm shores of the great Lake Kivu. Sunset over neighboring Congo and dinner by the water.

Gisenyi - Kibuye
This morning, a charming trail crossing villages and plantations propels us onto the splendid asphalt road of the Congo-Nile ridge, overlooking the eastern shores of Kivu. In the early afternoon, we reach the peaceful bay of Kibuye. After swimming, we admire the traditional wooden fishing boats that go out at dusk, and savor grilled lake fish for dinner.

This morning we resume a magnificent ribbon of asphalt, assaulting the hills bordering the lake, between terraced crops, tea and coffee plantations. At the end of the stage, we cross the majestic high-altitude primary forest of Nyungwe, at nearly 8202 feet, a natural border with Burundi.
Kitabi - Bugesera Étape 6/9 93 miles including 62 miles of trails
Kitabi - Bugesera
An intense stage today, and a change of scenery: from the primary high-altitude forest, we head east on good trails suited for our faithful Royal Enfields, the terrain gradually softens and temperatures rise as we approach Nyanza, where we visit the old royal palace. A stage on the edge of the Bugesera marsh region, a true Garden of Eden for ornithologists.
Bugesera - Akagera National Park Étape 7/9 81 miles
Bugesera - Akagera National Park
Early morning departure to reach the asphalt road leading to the Tanzanian border. In the late morning, we leave our single-cylinders, climb into a 4x4 vehicle and enter Akagera National Park, where our lodge is located. On the afternoon's agenda: safari in search of the « Big Five ».

After starting the stage on asphalt, we find the rolling trails that follow the hill crests, our gaze extends far over this small country that we begin to understand and love. We have lunch by Lake Muhazi, and the smiles of the villagers accompany us until our return to Kigali. Overnight at the hotel.

Depending on your flight schedule, you have time to enjoy a few more hours of the capital's charms. Transfer to the international airport.

  • A Royal Enfield motorcycle and spare parts.

  • Gasoline, parking, any tolls.

  • Third-party motorcycle insurance.

  • Mandatory insurance: insurance covering medical expenses on site. Repatriation assistance, which covers you in case of 2-wheel accidents (large displacement).

  • Legal insurance and cancellation insurance highly recommended.

  • The international driving permit.

This ride includes some stages far from first aid. Primary assistance to reach the nearest medical center is mainly provided by our support vehicle, as means such as helicopters or ambulances are very rare. Limited telephone networks can make contact with emergency services difficult. As with any adventure itinerary, the difficulty of the route depends on weather conditions, both during and before the trip.
