Greece motorcycle tours

Greece is made for a first motorcycle tour in Europe: winding mountain roads with little traffic, coastal roads above the Mediterranean, ancient sites at every turn, and Greek food every evening. Our Greece motorcycle tours ride a Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, with an English-speaking guide, a mechanic and a support vehicle.

Ride The Road of the Gods, a week in the Peloponnese from Athens, join its women-only version, the Girls Ride, or explore northern Greece and Albania on Secret Roads of Another Europe. All three last 7 days, from $2,390.

From Rafina, a quiet port that avoids the Athens traffic, the loop crosses the Corinth Canal into the Peloponnese, the land of Greek mythology: ancient Nemea, Lake Doxa and the mountains of Kalavryta, the stone villages of Arcadia, Sparta and the Byzantine town of Mystras, the fortified town of Monemvasia on its rock, then the cliffside monastery of Elonas, Nafplio and the theater of Epidaurus before returning to Rafina. Almost entirely on paved roads, with a few easy tracks. Departures in April and May, then from September to November. From $2,390.

The Girls Ride follows the same loop through the Peloponnese, for women riders only, with a female tour leader and the same support as all our tours: a mechanic and a support vehicle. No 2027 date is published yet: you can suggest one on the tour page. From $2,390.

Secret Roads of Another Europe starts in Thessaloniki and rides to the lakeside town of Kastoria, then into Albania: the UNESCO-listed town of Gjirokastër, the Vjosa valley, one of the last wild rivers in Europe, the Devoll valley, and Lake Prespa, where Albania, Greece and North Macedonia meet. It is a more demanding week, with long days on small winding roads: it suits riders with regular experience rather than beginners. From $2,390.

The Road of the Gods is an accessible tour: paved mountain and coastal roads, a relaxed pace, and only about 5% of easy tracks. It is a great first motorcycle tour abroad, and passengers are welcome: many riders come as a couple. Secret Roads of Another Europe also welcomes passengers, but its longer days suit experienced riders.

Spring and fall are the best seasons in Greece: mild, sunny days, few crowds and no summer heat. Fly to Athens for the Peloponnese, or to Thessaloniki for northern Greece and Albania, usually with one connection from the US. No visa is needed for a tourist stay of up to 90 days.

Greece motorcycle tours: your questions

Three 7-day tours, each with 5 riding days. The Road of the Gods loops around the Peloponnese from Athens, via Sparta, Monemvasia and Epidaurus: the most accessible, ideal for a first tour or for riding with a passenger. Secret Roads of Another Europe leaves Thessaloniki for the mountains of northern Greece and Albania, with long days. Girls Ride: The Road of the Gods follows the Peloponnese loop in a women-only group; no 2027 date is published yet. Crete and the islands are not on our routes.

$2,390 per rider and $1,990 per passenger, on each of our three 7-day tours. The price covers the motorcycle and gas, the tour leader, the mechanic, the support vehicle, lodging, all meals and airport transfers. You budget for your flights, drinks and tips, plus a $41 registration fee on your first tour with us.

In spring and fall, away from the July and August heat. The Road of the Gods runs in April and May, then from September through November; Secret Roads of Another Europe departs in May, then in late September and early October. Days are usually mild, with cooler mornings and evenings in the mountains. Open dates are listed on each tour page.

It depends on the tour. The Road of the Gods and its Girls Ride are rated Accessible: with a motorcycle license and regular riding, you follow mountain and coastal roads, with a few short stretches of easy gravel. Secret Roads of Another Europe is rated Intermediate: hardly any off-road, but long, winding days in the saddle, one after another, that call for stamina. Riding with a passenger is possible on all three tours.

U.S. citizens need no visa for a tourist stay of up to 90 days within 180 days in the Schengen area, which includes Greece, and Albania does not require one either for a short visit. Bring your passport and your U.S. motorcycle license, and carry an International Driving Permit, issued by AAA, as Greek police may ask for one. Rules can change: check the State Department pages before you go. Everything is in our help center: Preparing your trip to Greece.

By air, usually with one connection from the U.S.; you book your own flights. The Road of the Gods and its Girls Ride start and end at Athens airport: a transfer takes you to Rafina, on the coast, where the group meets in the evening. Secret Roads of Another Europe starts at Thessaloniki airport, in the north. Our team meets you on arrival and takes you back on the last day.

Yes, with the usual care: on a motorcycle, the main risk is the road itself, with tight mountain curves, pavement that can be slippery or broken, animals on the road and aggressive passing. The tour leader sets the pace, and the mechanic and support vehicle follow the group, including on remote stretches far from medical help. Before you go, check the U.S. Department of State travel advisory and country information for Greece, and enroll in STEP, the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program.

You can, but you would have to find a motorcycle locally, plan the route on small mountain roads and handle hotels, breakdowns and paperwork by yourself, an ocean away from home. Our Greece tours are guided: you fly in, a Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 is waiting, serviced by a mechanic, and an English-speaking tour leader rides ahead, with a support vehicle for the luggage. We ride with 10 motorcycles at most, 12 participants with passengers.
