Riding the tracks of the Great Rift Valley, more than 70% of this itinerary, is a childhood dream come true: riding freely in the heart of the savanna, where zebras, antelopes and giraffes graze along the trails. From Arusha, at the foot of Kilimanjaro, this Tanzania motorcycle tour on a Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 takes you to the red waters of Lake Natron, the baobabs of Lake Eyasi, Maasai and Hadzabe lands, and a safari in Tarangire National Park.

Here begins your Africa motorcycle tour. Upon your arrival at the airport, you will be welcomed and transferred to your hotel in Arusha, offering a splendid view of Mount Meru. Meet your motorcycle guide and the rest of the group, ready for an unforgettable adventure.
Arusha - Matadi Stage 2/10 62 miles including 25 to 37 miles of trail

Our Royal Enfield Himalayans cover the first miles towards Kilimanjaro, in the heart of the Great Rift Valley. We bypass the impressive Mount Meru before reaching our lodge, on the green hills of Matadi. This first day ends with a breathtaking panorama of Africa's highest peak, whose summit is often hidden by its own microclimate. Catching a glimpse of the snowy peak is always a stroke of luck.

We cross vast desert plains and encounter those who inhabit the surroundings: antelopes, giraffes, zebras... After a lunch break in the bush, the afternoon promises to be epic amidst the volcanoes. Some sandy sections make this day more intense than usual.
Lake Natron Tour Stage 4/10 31 miles of trail

We set off to discover the shores of Lake Natron, just a few wheel turns from Kenya! During the morning, we explore the Ngare Sero River gorges. We willingly let ourselves be mesmerized by the rose-red and azure blue reflections of the lake.
Lake Natron - Karatu Stage 5/10 75 miles including 71 miles of trail

A change of scenery today! We leave the heat of Natron and ride south into the Great Rift Valley: an opportunity to get closer to the magnificent Ol Doinyo Lengai and admire the Maasai steppes as far as the eye can see. We follow the escarpment, dotted here and there with umbrella acacias and magnificent candelabra cacti, all the way to Lake Manyara, a picturesque and enchanting setting dear to Ernest Hemingway. At the end of the stage, we gain altitude on a beautiful ribbon of asphalt, cross cultivated plateaus, and finally reach our lodge, at the edge of the forest covering the Ngorongoro ridge.
Karatu - Lake Eyasi Stage 6/10 50 miles including 25 miles of trail
Karatu - Lake Eyasi
Depart from Karatu to reach the splendid Lake Eyasi. Ascend the majestic Rift Valley escarpment again towards the Ngorongoro Crater, before turning onto a gravel road winding through lush forests and offering panoramic views all the way to Lake Eyasi. Arrive at your destination for lunch, followed by check-in at your lodge for the night. In the afternoon, you can visit a Hadzabe tribe. Return to the lodge at sunset for the night.
Lake Eyasi - Lake Burunge Stage 7/10 124 miles including 87 miles of trail
Lake Eyasi - Lake Burunge
Early departure for what may be the most beautiful stage of the trip. The first 25 miles, in the kingdom of baobabs, are also the most technical: a lot of sand as well as some very steep and rocky sections. This is adventure riding at its purest! We finally reach a well-maintained trail and the beautiful hilly region of Mbulu, a picturesque village where we have lunch. In the afternoon, the trail brings us back to the edge of the Great Rift escarpment, into which we descend via a beautiful series of switchbacks, before reaching our lodge, on the border of Tarangire National Park.
Tarangire National Park Stage 8/10 86 miles

Today, you'll leave your motorcycle behind to embark on a 4x4 specially designed for an unforgettable adventure: a safari in the heart of Tarangire National Park. You'll leave your lodge early in the morning to reach this nearby park, where you'll spend the day exploring the wildlife. Renowned for its biodiversity, Tanzania's Tarangire Park is home to a wide variety of animals, including elephants, lions, cheetahs, leopards, buffaloes, and many more. In the late afternoon, return to your lodge for a moment of relaxation before enjoying a delicious dinner with an unobstructed view of the African bush.
Lake Burunge - Arusha Stage 9/10 81 miles

We take our time for this last stage connecting Lake Burunge to the city of Arusha. The arid landscapes gradually fade, giving way to the hustle and bustle of the city.

Depending on your flight schedule, you'll have time to enjoy the charm and markets of Arusha for a few more hours. Transfer to the international airport.

  • Mandatory insurance: insurance covering medical expenses on site. Repatriation assistance, which covers you in case of 2-wheel accidents (large displacement).

This adventure tour is one of the most intense we run, and it is reserved for riders with real off-road (enduro) experience and good physical fitness. More than 70% of the route is on tracks: deep sand, dirt that turns slippery, rocky and steep sections, and many single tracks where the support vehicle cannot always follow. Passengers are only accepted if the pair has solid off-road experience riding two-up.

Full riding gear is essential, with goggles or a mask against the dust. Long stages are far from medical facilities: first assistance is provided by our support vehicle, as helicopters and ambulances are rare, and the phone network can be unstable. As on any adventure route, the difficulty depends on the weather, during and before the tour.
