Arrival in Negombo
Welcome to Sri Lanka! You are greeted at the airport and reach Negombo by private vehicle. Check-in at the hotel. Sri Lanka's 'Little Rome' has many surprises in store for you with its multitude of churches and oruwas. This first stage marks the beginning of your motorbike tour in Asia!
Negombo - Kalpitiya Étape 2/12 81 miles
Negombo - Kalpitiya
You start your motorcycle trip in Sri Lanka with a series of small roads that run along the ocean and pass through fishing villages, with some off-road sections. Tropical landscapes unfold to the rhythm of coconut plantations.
Kalpitiya - Sigiriya Étape 3/12 130 miles
Kalpitiya - Sigiriya
We enter a plain dotted with jungles, rice paddies, coconut groves, mango trees, all enhanced by numerous reservoirs. A detour via the ancient ephemeral capital of Yapahuwa dating from the 13th century.
Sigiriya - Sigiriya Étape 4/12 50 miles
Sigiriya - Sigiriya
Today, at sunrise, we climb the famous Lion Rock, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Then, a superb ride along small country roads and paths bordering irrigation canals takes us to the Buddhist caves of Dambulla.
Sigiriya - Trincomalee Étape 5/12 78 miles

This morning, we head northeast. Twenty miles of charming small road, forest track, and then a magnificent ribbon of asphalt that runs straight to the coast. By midday, we reach the great bay of Trincomalee, a splendid natural harbor coveted by maritime powers of centuries past.
Trincomalee - Maduru Oya Étape 6/12 130 miles

We ride due south through the endless eastern plains, dotted with pristine expanses, gigantic lakes, and protected natural parks. This entire part of the island is sparsely visited, and our day's stage takes us towards Maduru Oya National Park.
Maduru Oya - Knuckles Étape 7/12 65 miles

We ride due West with the impressive, very wild Knuckles mountain range in sight. Then a smooth and well-designed road takes us up into the coolness of the high-altitude tropical forests, above 3281 feet. Finally, the first tea plantations and rural villages conclude this beautiful stage!
Knuckles - Nuwara Eliya Étape 8/12 75 miles

We continue our discovery of the island by delving into its heart and the high plateau region overlooked by the country's highest peaks. We climb up to nearly 6562 feet. The roads wind through numerous tea plantations, true Land Art!
Nuwara Eliya - Ella Étape 9/12 59 miles
Nuwara Eliya - Ella
We are in the heart of Sri Lanka's tea "factory." We follow a deliberately winding route to see as much as possible of this unique region. We also cross the country's milk plateau, where you might almost feel like you've arrived in New Zealand.
Ella - Udawalawe Étape 10/12 99 miles
Ella - Udawalawe
Early morning departure for the last mountain miles. Stop at Diyaluma Falls, the country's third-highest waterfall. In the plain, we admire the large carved Buddhas of Buduru Wagala, before continuing to Udawalawe National Park for an elephant safari at the end of the day.
Udawalawe - Galle Étape 11/12 78 miles
Udawalawe - Galle
For this last stage, we head towards the highly sought-after South coast via a cocktail of small winding roads through the lush tropical countryside. We speed towards Galle, the old fortified Dutch city. After having walked the ramparts and battlements of the old Dutch fort, take the time to stroll through the narrow streets and numerous quality shops.
Galle - Negombo Étape 12/12
Galle - Negombo
This is the end of your motorcycle road trip in Sri Lanka! Today, you return by private vehicle to Colombo. Transfer to Negombo airport by private vehicle depending on your flight schedule (allow 3 hours of driving).

  • A Royal Enfield motorcycle and spare parts.

  • Fuel, parking, any tolls.

  • Third-party motorcycle insurance.

  • Mandatory insurance: insurance covering medical expenses on site. Repatriation assistance, which covers you in case of 2-wheel accidents (large displacement).

  • Legal insurance and cancellation insurance highly recommended.

  • The international driving permit.

This ride includes stages far from first aid. Primary assistance to reach the nearest medical center is mainly provided by our support vehicle, as means such as helicopters or ambulances are very rare. Limited telephone networks can make contact with emergency services difficult. As with any adventure itinerary, the difficulty of the route depends on weather conditions, both during and before the trip.
