Motorcycle Tours USA

Our motorcycle tours in the USA start from Rapid City, South Dakota, at the gateway to the Black Hills: some of the best riding roads in America, a short ride from Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park, the Badlands and Sturgis. You ride a Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, on a self-guided tour with everything organized for you, or on a rental at your own pace.

Rated 5.0 on Google by our riders in Rapid City:

“Rented the Royal Enfield Himalayan for 3 days to tour the Black Hills and had a blast.” James

“Great bikes for the Black Hills and a cool little shop.” Mark

“Owned and run by true motorcycle enthusiasts who want the customer to enjoy riding the Black Hills area.” J. Blake

The Black Hills pack an incredible variety of riding into a few hundred miles. Needles Highway threads between granite spires and narrow tunnels, Iron Mountain Road winds through pigtail bridges with tunnels framing Mount Rushmore, and Custer State Park is home to roaming herds of bison. To the east, Badlands National Park stretches out in a lunar landscape of eroded buttes; to the north, Spearfish Canyon, the old gold rush town of Deadwood and Sturgis, home of the famous motorcycle rally, are all within reach. Paved scenic byways and gravel forest roads make it a playground for road and adventure riders alike.

Some of America’s great motorcycle roads, all within a day’s ride of Rapid City:

  • Peter Norbeck Scenic Byway: the loop that links Needles Highway, Iron Mountain Road and Sylvan Lake, one of the most famous rides in the Midwest.
  • Wildlife Loop Road: a slow, open ride through the prairie of Custer State Park, where bison, pronghorn and wild burros cross the road.
  • Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway: a winding road between limestone cliffs and waterfalls in the northern hills.
  • Badlands Loop Road: a ride through the striped buttes and canyons of Badlands National Park, best at sunrise or sunset.

Add the Wild West history of Deadwood, the faces of Mount Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Memorial, and you have everything that makes a great motorcycle tour in the USA, without the long highway miles.

Ride at your own pace with everything organized for you: hotels, a roadbook app with tracks and points of interest, a secure luggage system, park entrance fees, motorcycle insurance, roadside assistance and phone support 24/7.

  • Black Hills Blast: 3 days and 310 miles from Rapid City to Custer and Deadwood.
  • Best of the Black Hills: 9 days and 770 miles through Wall, Hot Springs, Custer, Keystone, Deadwood and Sundance in Wyoming.

Both run from May to September.

Rent a Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, with panniers, top case and phone mount, the Black Hills National Forest trail permit, the Custer State Park entrance and 24/7 rider support, and ride one of our favorite loops:

  • The Southern Hills: Iron Mountain Road, Custer State Park, Needles Highway and Sylvan Lake.
  • The Badlands: the White River Valley, Badlands National Park and Wall.
  • The Northern Hills: Sturgis, Spearfish Canyon, Deadwood and Vanocker Canyon.

Our Rapid City shop, Vintage Rides USA, also rents bikes by the day: see Sturgis motorcycle rental, Black Hills motorcycle rental, and our guide to the 10 best Black Hills motorcycle rides.

The best riding season in the Black Hills runs from May to September, when all the scenic byways are open. Our self-guided tours run during that season, and rentals are available all year round, weather permitting. The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally takes place every August: the roads are busier, and the atmosphere is unique.

In the US, our tours are self-guided. For a fully guided tour with an English-speaking guide, a mechanic and a support vehicle, ride with us abroad: India, Asia, South America, Africa or Europe.
