Your Royal Enfield Himalayan adventure will start at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak. Expect stunning natural scenery every day as you ride through deserts, forests, savannahs, and bush, alongside lakes, volcanoes, and waterfalls. Tanzania is home to a variety of ecosystems, and you’ll be amazed by the wildlife you encounter across these vast landscapes. The Himalayan is perfect for tackling tracks, giving you peace of mind so you can fully enjoy the natural spectacle as we set off in search of Maasai culture. This Tanzania motorcycle tour is a childhood dream come true. We’ll spend most of our time (65%) on the Great Rift Valley tracks, which means one thing: the exhilarating freedom of riding across extensive savannahs. From Mount Kilimanjaro to volcanoes and massive lakes, and passing by the Ngorongoro Crater, get ready for a motorcycle adventure that’s truly out of this world!

YOUR MOTORCYCLE TOUR TANZANIA

10 stages - 652 miles
1/10 • International Airport – Arusha
This is where your motorcycle tour in Africa begins. You’re met at the airport and taken to your hotel in a calm Arusha neighbourhood, with beautiful views of Mount Meru overlooking the city. You’ll also meet your tour leader and other riders in the evening for a quick brief on the impending adventure.
2/10 • Arusha – Matadi
Our Royal Enfields eat up the first miles of a superb tarmacked road in the heart of the Great Rift Valley. On the way, we’ll skirt around the impressive Mount Meru (4,565 m altitude) and arrive at our lodge in the green hills of Matadi. This first day will end on a high note with breathtaking views of Africa’s highest peak. Although, due to its own microclimate, seeing Mount Kilimanjaro's peak is quite rare.

3/10 • Matadi – Lake Natron
We leave Kilimanjaro’s foothills behind us and cross the vast desert plains of north Tanzania. At the helm of our Himalayans there’ll be many chance encounters with the local residents, including antelopes, giraffes, zebras, and more. The afternoon is set to be epic as we ride between volcanoes. Some sandy stretches make today a little more intense than normal.

4/10 • Lake Natron
We spend the day on the banks of Lake Natron, just a short ride away from Kenya! In the morning, we explore the Ngare Sero Gorge. We return to the east side of the lake to spot flamingos and other aquatic birds: expect a mesmerising display of vibrant pinks reflecting against the rich blue water. We hit the tracks and set off to discover one of the last authentic Maasai villages.

5/10 • Lake Natron – Karatu
A change of scenery today! We leave the heat of Natron and head south into the Great Rift Valley, offering a closer view of the majestic Ol Doinyo Lengai and the endless Maasai steppes. We follow the escarpment, dotted here and there with umbrella acacias and magnificent candelabra cacti, until we reach Lake Manyara, a picturesque and enchanting setting beloved by Ernest Hemingway. As the day draws to a close, we ascend a beautiful ribbon of asphalt, pass through cultivated plateaus, and finally reach our lodge at the edge of the forest covering the Ngorongoro crest.

6/10 • Karatu – Lake Eyas
Departure from Lake Manyara to reach the stunning Lake Eyasi. Ascend the majestic Rift Valley escarpment once again, heading toward the Ngorongoro Crater before turning onto a gravel road winding through lush forests and offering panoramic views as you approach Lake Eyasi. Upon arrival, enjoy lunch, followed by check-in at your lodge for the night. In the afternoon, you can opt for a visit to the Hadzabe tribe or take a leisurely ride along the lake's shore (approximately 37 miles). Return to the lodge at sunset for an overnight stay.

7/10 • Lake Eyasi - Lake Burunge
Early departure for what may be the most beautiful leg of the trip. The first 25 miles, through the kingdom of baobabs, are also the most technical: lots of sand, along with some steep and rocky sections. The term "Adventure Raid" truly comes to life here! We eventually reach a smooth track leading to the rolling hills of Mbulu, a picturesque town where we stop for lunch. In the afternoon, the trail brings us back to the edge of the Great Rift escarpment, which we descend via a stunning series of switchbacks before arriving at our lodge, located on the edge of Tarangire National Park.

8/10 • Tarangire National Park
Today, you'll trade your motorcycle for a 4x4 vehicle specially designed for an unforgettable adventure: a safari through the heart of Tarangire National Park. You'll leave your lodge early in the morning to reach this nearby park, where you'll spend the day exploring the abundant wildlife. Known for its biodiversity, Tanzania's Tarangire National Park is home to a wide variety of animals, including elephants, lions, cheetahs, leopards, buffalo, and many more. In the late afternoon, return to your lodge for some relaxation before enjoying a delicious dinner with stunning views of the African bush.

9/10 • Lake Burunge – Arusha
We savour this last day skirting Lake Burunge and on to Arusha. The vast, arid landscapes gradually make way for the hubbub of the city. We spend one last evening together going over the best bits of our adventure while we enjoy a local feast.

10/10 • Arusha - Kilimanjaro International Airport
Depending on your flight schedule, you may have some time to enjoy Arusha for a few more hours. You’re transferred to the international airport.

This raid is reserved for experienced pilots. It includes long stages far from first aid. Primary assistance to reach the nearest medical center is mainly provided by our assistance vehicle, means such as helicopters or ambulances being very rare. Unstable telephone networks can occasionally make contact with emergency services difficult. As with any adventure itinerary, the difficulty of the route depends on the weather conditions, both during and before the trip.
