This motorcycle trip in Thailand is a short, fast-paced adventure that takes you from Chiang Mai to the Golden Triangle for a complete immersion in a country with a fascinating culture. Between green mountains, terraced rice fields, and ethnic villages, every turn offers breathtaking views and winding roads ideal for motorcycle enthusiasts. You'll cross mountain passes, ride alongside peaceful rivers, and explore forgotten temples, all while meeting local communities and discovering their traditions. This trip combines the pleasure of riding with cultural immersion and authentic encounters.

1/7 • Chiang Mai
You will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. Take advantage of this first day to explore Chiang Mai, a major city in northern Thailand. Ideally located in the heart of the ancient Lanna kingdom, its architectural heritage is breathtaking, with no fewer than 300 temples! Visit Wat Chedi Luang, stroll through the city's various markets, including the famous night market, and sample your first Thai specialties. This stop marks the beginning of your motorbike tour in Asia. Overnight stay in a standard hotel in the city center.
2/7 • Chiang Mai – Chiang Dao
The adventure begins heading north through Chiang Mai’s vegetable patches alongside Ping river. We encounter our first paddies on a quiet winding road, then gain altitude and cross the lush massif, which separates us from the Mae Taeng valley. At the end of the day, we arrive in Chiang Dao, a small hamlet set at the foothills of an impressive mountain, famous for its ancient Buddhist temples and cave full of history. Overnight stay at hotel.

3/7 • Chiang Dao – Tha Ton
In the morning, we come across our first karst cliffs of the tour, emerging from a dense forest, peppered with majestic teaks, which line the brand new tarmacked road. We continue north towards the Burmese border through changing landscapes that become increasingly wild. The road propels us towards Doi Angkhang, which stands at almost 2,000 m altitude. The summit and the views over the surrounding countryside are stunning! After a traditional meal in the village of Ban Luang, we head back down into Fang’s vast plains and end this leg in Tha Ton, a small town on the banks of the Kok river, where the long-tail boats pass. Overnight stay at hotel.

4/7 • Thaton – Golden Triangle
Our adventure continues north, closer to the Burmese border, as we advance on staggering small mountain roads. After crossing Fang’s plains, we climb up to Doi Mae Salong, known for its Chinese mountain village, Santikhiri. In Mae Fah Luang botanical garden, coffee and tea crops now bloom instead of vibrant poppies. Small secondary roads crisscross the Burmese border and the Mekong until we reach Chiang Saen in the heart of the Golden Triangle. Overnight stay at hotel.

5/7 • Golden Triangle - Chiang Rai
We make an early start to leave Chiang Saen following the Mekong for a few miles and then head south. We cruise between rice paddies, pineapple plantations and other fruit and vegetable crops, and arrive in Chiang Rai for lunch. In the afternoon, we can visit the famous White Temple, Baan Dam Museum and Wat Huay Pla Kung. Overnight stay at hotel.

6/7 • Chiang Rai – Chiang Mai
Saddle up for your last day on the bikes. We head south towards Phayao. We take a short break in this provincial capital on the edge of a large lake with mountain views. We continue on beautiful forest roads and even fit in a little track before lunch, which we enjoy on the banks of the Mae Kuang river. We need to be extra careful for the last few miles on the approach to Chiang Mai, where we rejoin civilisation and with it, traffic! We spend the last night in Chiang Mai, where you can do a bit of shopping or simply enjoy one last Thai massage. Opposite Chiang Mai women’s prison is a halfway house where prisoners are trained in traditional massage techniques. Overnight stay at hotel in the centre.

7/7 • Chiang Mai
Depending on your flight time, you may have a few more hours to enjoy Chiang Mai's charms. You are transferred to the international airport.

This trip includes a few long stages. Primary aid in reaching the nearest medical center is provided by our support vehicle, as helicopters and ambulances are rarely available. Limited phone coverage and restrictions on satellite phones can make contacting emergency services challenging. Additionally, as with any mountain route, road quality and difficulty are heavily influenced by current and prior weather conditions.
