1/7 • Djerba
Welcome to Djerba for this Africa motorcycle tour! We will be greeted at the airport and transferred to our hotel located in Houmt Souk, the island's historical city. Once settled in our foundouk, a charming ancestral building where merchants and travelers once lodged, we can set off to explore the historic alleys of the covered souk, with its colorful stalls of fabrics, objects, and spices. It's up to us to negotiate! Here, we'll find the unique architectural ambiance of whitewashed buildings with inner courtyards and blooming bougainvillea. We'll experience the legendary sweetness of the island by indulging in generous pastries under the shade of old olive trees. Overnight stay in a standard hotel.
2/7 • Djerba - Tataouine
We gather at the motorcycles early in the morning before the big departure and head westward. After leaving the island, we quickly make our way towards the Dahar region. In the morning, we gradually access the lunar landscapes and sublime mountains of the Dahar valleys. We'll have lunch in the shade of palm trees at a family-run inn located in the heart of a typical and picturesque village. Later on, we venture into the land of Ksours, ancient clay-built traditional granaries used by semi-nomadic populations to protect and store harvests, tools, and other precious goods. At the end of the day, we reach our gîte in an ancient Berber village nestling on the side of a rocky outcrop. Sunset with a breathtaking panoramic view. Unusual overnight stay in our troglodyte rooms. Rudimentary shared bathrooms and toilets.

3/7 • Tataouine - Ksar Ghilane
After breakfast, we mount our motorcycles and head towards the Deep South. We pass through the town of Tataouine, famously associated with the legendary Star Wars saga, and continue towards the remote and southern reaches of Dahar. We delve into an increasingly arid landscape with sparse vegetation. Lunch is enjoyed in the impressive Berber village of Chenini, clinging to the rock and perched on a cliff. In the afternoon, we ride towards the Tunisian Sahara and its legendary oasis, Ksar Ghilane. We wind along manageable tracks, catching glimpses of the undulating shapes of the first dunes, and perhaps even your first mirages! We arrive at our hotel in the mid-afternoon. There's an opportunity to swim in the oasis spring. Overnight stay in a standard hotel.

4/7 • Ksar Ghilane - Douz
After a good night's rest, we hit the road again heading northwest. This morning, we traverse the soothing relief of the dunes. Luckily, we cross paths with friendly nomads along the way. The kilometers pass by quickly, and we finally reach Douz, a vast oasis and guardian of the eastern gates of the Sahara Desert, witnessing exchanges between nomadic and settled populations. Lunch in downtown Douzl. In the afternoon, we hop back on our motorcycles to explore the tracks shaded by date palm groves in the region and discover the sparkling colors of Chott El Djérid, Tunisia's largest salt lake. Overnight stay in a standard hotel.

5/7 • Douz - Matmata
Heading towards Matmata! After skirting around Chott El Djérid, we ride through the last mountainous plains of the Eastern Atlas. We quickly have lunch to continue our journey towards the first rugged valleys and the Northern Dahar with its famous rocky desert. We explore the Berber culture of Matmata, known for its troglodyte dwellings carved into the earth. We ride through this stunning and timeless scenery during the latter part of the day before reaching our accommodation with its charming troglodyte rooms. Overnight stay in a standard hotel.

6/7 • Matmata - Djerba (île)
We set off early on our motorcycles, alternating between dizzying panoramic terraces and vast plains stretching towards the sea. Cultivated fields and greenery reappear as we pass through small villages. We enjoy a traditional lunch on the mountainside within an ancient Berber village built with dry stone. After this break, we head towards the Mediterranean coast to return to the gentle Djerba. We board the ferry to reach the island, parking our motorcycles in the early afternoon to explore the island before your departure. Dinner at the Foundouk allows us to debrief together on the highlights of this motorcycle adventure.

7/7 • Djerba (île)
End of your Tunisian adventure. It's time to do your last shopping in Houmt Souk. Shuttle to Djerba International Airport.

This hike includes a few long stages far from first aid. Primary assistance to reach the nearest medical center is mainly provided by our assistance vehicle, means such as helicopters or ambulances being very rare. Unstable telephone networks can occasionally make contact with emergency services difficult. As with any adventure itinerary, the difficulty of the route depends on the weather conditions, both during and before the trip.
